Table Top Simulator

Tabletop Simulator is more intuitive. It's just the real game pretty much except in a virtual environment. If figuring out how to assign the automatic dials is too much for you, then you can always treat your dials as decks of cards and memorize the simple movement commands. br1 for bank right one speed, tr3t for turn right 3 speed talon roll, xrb for barrel roll right all the way back, etc.

Bomb dropping is automated now, and the game will give you a text notification when a ship has overlapped an asteroid.

Steam has sales all the time and even if you're impatient the $20 it costs his well worth it. The community is friendly and will be more than happy to help you learn TTS. People have even made promo cards in the game.

Assigning dials is even easier now. I hadn't used TTS in a couple months cuz was just too busy and when I used it last week I was amazed at the improvements. It was very easy before, now it is super easy. Seems like a bunch more people are online too.

I have both and haven't played either online yet... but I can honestly say I am leaning towards Vassal and will probably dive in a bit more this weekend and maybe try a game out. For me, as a new player to the digital X-Wing world I find that Vassal looks more intimidating at first because the UI is junk and until I actually read the blogs and realized that yes, the tokens and cards are supposed to be blank...I thought something was wrong.

TTS is a lot prettier, but I find it annoying to setup and play because of the 3D/VR perspective. It's very cool, don't get me wrong, but I just don't like it. For me it just doesn't flow... at least Vassal appears to flow once you start.

I just want to practice more because I'm determined to get to regionals this next season and make at top 16. Currently finishing between 2-11 at store champs depending on my matchups... so I need to fix a lot of that

TTS is super easy.

Hit squad builder button, paste squad text in and hit spawn. Everything comes up you, put the ships in your area and hit assign dials. Ready to play in under 30 seconds.

Vassal does the same these days too. :)

Was about to say, just like for VASSAL :D

Even faster if you've already saved the list into TTS

Just made my TTS purchase. It looked really neat and intuitive.

I had downloaded Vassal, but never actually got it running. Friends had also told me that they had trouble gauging ranges so that may have soured me slightly. Either way, I'm giving this a shot and if it's not a good fit, I'll give Vassal a go.

I want to get better, and the best way to do that is to keep flying, keep shooting.

Is there any type of support in Vassal or Tabletop Simulator for Heroes of the Aturi Cluster?

There is a mod to play it in TTS, I've been looking into it recently.

Not that I'm aware of, but post on the Reddit X-Wing forum about it.

Maybe if TTS is the first to implement it, we can tip the scales towards TTS.

EDIT: Is there? Interesting.

I'll have to check it out.

Also, if you play on TTS please treat yourself by spawning the IPod and going to "Children's Song". There you will find a song called "At the Fair" or something like that. Just hit auto replay and enjoy.

I've never played anything else on TTS, there's an iPod? How do you spawn it? I NEED MUSIX!

objects > components > tools > mp3 player

ok after reading the thread I decided to get TTS another go. I was trying to figure out Vassal but played my first online game tonight using TTS. I found out I was using the wrong version of the "mod"

I'm very impressed at how easy and intuitive the interface is now. The dial setting and reveal was awesome, but I accidentally deleted an A-Wing on setup and that made that ship a bit harder to use because it was no longer semi-automated. The only thing that kinda sucked was my first opponent flipped the table after I got a crit through on Whisper which ended up being a direct hit... sucks, but thats the game. I would have loved to play it out.

Considering I went from installing the right version of the game to playing through my first game in under 2 hours is the perfect example of what makes it so much easier than Vassal. Too bad its time for bed, I wanted to do another one! :)

Hey Wiredin, if you deleted a ship before/during setup, it shouldn't take more than ~30 seconds to re-do that (assuming host won't just hit "rewind" to undo the deletion):

1. Click "Item Browser" on the side, "initialize" and then type in delete ship name or its part into the notecard.
2. Click ship name on a button that should appear to spawn it.
3. Take this new model, delete all dials in your zone (for all ships), put them back there, hit Assign Dials, done.

If you wanted to save some ships position, like if they were already set when you deleted the A-Wing, perform any movement with them and undo it (or use the 'keep' command). Then you just undo after moving them to assign dials and they'll pop right back in.

If any of that sounds weird or counterintuitive, hit me up on mod Discord and I'll show you. It really should be quite swift once you get the hold of things :)
PS. If the host flipped, it wasn't nice but it was his table after all. If you were the host, kick the dude and hit the back arrow (rewind time, Ctrl-Z shortcut) to have it immediately undone.

Full support on VASSAL, I believe.

With all the assets available and AI in?

TTS has support for HoTAC, AI is built into the ships so you don't have to roll. Even tells you which ships to move next and what phase "planning, activation, etc" you are in with a turn counter that's automatically updated.

Just a note that I'm pretty certain a lot of the improvements in both TTS and vassal have come from them openly sharing their coding and such with each other. Neither side really cares where you go to play as long as everyone has a platform to use to play online.

I haven't logged into TTS in a while, what wave is it currently on?

@Kdubb
That's the idea I always wanted to share, they're vastly different programs :) To each their own and having options can only be good for the community.

@Viktus106
It's up to date, everything spoiled (so entirety of wave XI) is in. No epic-only things though.

Thanks! that was my biggest issue was when I deleted the ship. It was during setup.

As for the table flip, I was hosting, and he quit right after hitting the flip the table button.

Im gonna re-download that game on steam to play it again, my name is the same as here if anyone wants to send a friend request, just let me know its for xwing
