Scum and Villainy Podcast, Episode 48: Scruffy Goes Nerf Herding

By blairbunke, in X-Wing

So yeah I the janitor, who already does 90% of the work around here, has been stuck with another job and must now promote these stupid things since no one else on the ship can be bothered to so here yall go. We'll talk about Endor a lil' bit and give our pee-brained thoughts on the new FAQ.

We're extending the C-ROC contest till next episode. We've received a ton of submissions but haven't picked one yet so it's not too late to send one in.

If only scum had this,

then maybe they can throw out the extra passengers every time a critical effect comes up?:P

Good on Tyler for fighting the good fight on Sabine+Adv Slam!

Edit: Also, congrats on a great tourney season to Blair with lists that no one else dares to fly.

Great episode, fellas!

Everyone has missed the miniscule Attani Mindlink nerf re: multiple ships with simultaneous effects. If you hit multiple mindlinked ships with, say, thermal detonators, you no longer just ping them all for one damage and stress everyone linked. Now everyone gets pinged for one damage, then you choose one initial ship and stress it, which stresses everyone in the link. Then you choose the next ship caught in the blast and stress it again, then the next, and so on. So one single stress, and double stress for everyone else.

It's a super corner case, but worth a look v. Triple Scout. I've been waiting for one of the podcasts to throw it out. Sable Gryphon has missed two opportunities to find it!

Oh and I guess you're pretty good at X-wing, or whatever too, Blair ;)

I loved it when Starslinger braved the wrath of the pirate lord by correcting his usage of acronym!

In terms of the discussion about Sabine, she is bonkers good and probably needs to be "evaluated". The problem with her is that they went straight to the top in terms of adding effectiveness by straight adding damage. She would have been good if she allowed for some sort of reroll based ability, or even adding an extra dice to bomb drop. If it wasn't a straight auto 1 damage she would have still been great for 2 points.

I don't agree with Sable in that she is not broken, she could have been a lower power level and still had the effect of making bombs viable. I also disagree with Starslinger that only the combo of Sabine/AdvSlam is broken. Obviously the best use of it, but not the only reason that Sabine is too good at what she does. Drop her in Scum and Imperials without access to slam and she is still super strong.

The other issue is that because she is restricted to rebels, if they want to boost scum and imperial bombs they need to add an equivalent card, but she is already at the top of the curve in terms of ways to boost bombs that to make an equivalent bomb booster for Scum/Imperial is rife with the potential to break the game.

The elephant in the room is definitely TLT though. If they had nerfed TLT a bit (add a green at range 3) and made Sabine a 50/50 chance to add damage the FAQ would have been perfect (IMO).

While I agree Raclo is really good the tools to counter it already exist, so the meta can adapt to it already should it need to. Anything that pushes people away from the ubiquitous 2 ship builds works for me.
