Hey all,

I wanted to make my starviper wings foldable and I couldnt find a tutorial so here is my attempt at explaining how I did it.

First, I carefully broke the connection between the front and back pieces. This left me with 4 main pieces. The wings were not glued on and just fell off once the two halfs were separated.

The wings have a small connection between them so I decided to use it as my pivot. I had to remove a small amount of material with a file to allow the connection to rotate in the existing groove. These are the before and after pics.

I had a magnet mod on this ship already so I also had to shave off a little material with a scalpel to make room for the magnet between the wing halves.

I drilled a small hole where the original attachment on both front and back pieces was and pressed a piece of nail into the hole.

I put a small amount of hot glue into the groove in the front piece that holds the wings. Then I cut most of it out leaving just enough to provide a small amount of friction in order to hold the wings in whatever position I place them in. Then I placed the wings in the grooves and pressed the pieces together. I close not to glue it together as it held very well and will enable me to disassemble it later if the need arises.

I am able to fold the wings any amount and they stay in place very well.

In retrospect I probably should have filed out the groove on the front piece of the ship instead of filing down the wing connection as the connection is small and I weakened it by filing a bit of it off.

Me too - and if I happen to stuff it up, then I'll just buy another pack of Autothrusters - I could do with some more.

Very detailed mod, and well done, thanks for sahring! FFG should take note of this one and re-release the Starviper with this feature, now they've managed to pull that out on the U-Wing and the TIE Striker. And new pilots and a "fix title" as well... Just dreaming.

You must have gotten lucky, and bought a ship that hadn't had much glue used to join front to back.

Not the case for mine unfortunately - spent quite a while prising the front off only to find they'd be very liberal with the glue, and the connectors joining each pair of wings were firmly glued into their grooves.

All put back together now though.

Next time try popping it into the freezer for 10 minutes or so first. THe glue becomes brittle and contracts differently than the plastic so it can help snap the glue bonds.

And from my experience, pinning a StarViper to have hinged wings is more than possible!
