Critical effects

By Norell, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I've read too much and managed to confuse myself again, so it's time to ask third partirs again.

A ship with APT attacks a other ship with one shield left. Rolls two hit/crits.

The question is, how many faceup cards the target gonna get. One because there is a crit or two because the APT gives an extra faceup card?

Only one faceup, the APT effect. This happens first and is in addition to the 4 damage rolled. Then, you resolve the other 4 damage without a critical effect. In your scenario, a shield and 3 hull (face down). So, your target gets a face up card (APT), looses a shield, and 3 more face down. It's important to resolve the crit before all other damage as it may take shields away before the other damage is resolved.

Correct a bad info due to a misreading on my part.

You can only trigger 1 crit (unless Fire-Control team).

So you could do 1 faceup by APT.

Or 1 faceup by default (if you get through to hull).

But not both.

How many crit icons you roll is irrelevant. You only need 1.

Yeah, that too^^^^

If I roll 5 crits, I don't think of it that way, I think of it as 5 damage with critical effect.

I was just confused about the crit effects. Thanks :)

Just to clarify your original scenario:

Hit/crit and hit/crit from an APT vs a hull zone with 1 shield remaining = 4 damage with a critical effect.

Evade (or Admonition) - let's assume none

Resolve critical effects: If you choose to use APT then you deal and resolve a face-up card now or the standard critical effect is just that the first damage card dealt is face up.

Spend and resolve other defence tokens - let's assume none

4 damage is dealt 1 to shields then 3 cards to the hull. If you hadn't chosen APT then the standard critical effect would mean that is 1 face up and 2 face down.

This. It's worth explicitly pointing out that Fire Control Team would let you resolve the APT and the standard crit effect, for two face up cards, even if a single hit/crit had been rolled .

Oops, yeah I read that wrong. But resolving the crit is what's important. I'll edit it later when I'm not traveling to ensure it's accurate.
