Cannot Get Your Ship Out: 3/19-3/26 Adepticon week!

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada

Starting off by finishing the wave one objectives review articles with the yellow objectives !

John and I (and several of our other Armada community members) will be at the Adepticon Armada events on Friday and Sunday so expect some news about those as well!

Clearly we'll have to coordinate what we're wearing for the tournaments. I'm leaning towards that R2D2 tie again, it got a lot of compliments at Milwaukee.

Also, the "Using the Small Fighter Screen" article is nearing completion. It is long, and it took me around 3 solid evenings of writing it, but I think when we're done it'll be pretty comprehensive. Plus, it'll make the other articles shorter too! If i'm lucky, I'll try to get in an article this week on the Assault Frigate, too.

Thanks guys for doing all this, these are great.

So it took 3 days of solid writing and a day of editing (I have been working on this since last Thursday, oof), but as of today: here's how to use your squadrons, and how to fight all 3 different types of squadron groups you may face.

Probably the best all-around squadron defense article I've seen yet. Very nice!

Thanks! The whole squadrons thing is a labor of love at this point. I just like talking about them and getting people to understand how to use them better.

I feel you. I've sat down to write this article probably four times and every time walked away during the "where do I even start?" phase. But you covered pretty much all the basic tactics succinctly.

I'm actually really glad to see the objective writeup, figuring out what to use when has been a nightmare for me

Yeah objective choice is one of those things that newer players just absolutely do not know what to do with* and it was one of the more "applied" Armada articles I've been wanting to write for a while. I'm glad it's been well-received, I've been getting lots of compliments about them which always feels good.

*Not intended whatsoever as a slight to newer players. It's just choosing objectives well depends on understanding fleet dynamics on both sides of the table AND fleet building AND your meta and there's absolutely no way a newer player is comfortable with all those things yet. Just no way. And I can see it frustrates them because it's yet another choice they need to make where they just don't feel like they've got enough information to choose well, and ideally we should be making the "getting into Armada" process as painless as possible for our bright-eyed and bushy-tailed new players: they're the lifeblood of our community.

Exactly. Objectives in any game take a ton of practice before you get a feel for how to play them. Armada has some of the more varied objectives from what I've seen (in standard play).

Can't get enough of your articles. Awesome job

oooooo Snipafist... congrats! And to think we almost played each other in round 2 before the player swizzle happened.

Yep, that sounds right! You played my buddy Phil and it looked like a bruising "trading punches" kind of game with heavier ships on each side! I spoke with your son a bit after my game got over and he seemed like a good kid. Reminded me a bit of myself when I was his age going to the occasional nerd convention with my dad. Hopefully you had a good time at the tournament! Will you be attending tomorrow?

Yeah we had a mighty fun match slogging it out. I'll blog it up when I get back home.

I'll see you tomorrow and Ian will be joining in. More pew pew fun ahead!

I CAN QUIT BLOGGING WHENEVER I LIKE!

No you can't!

/goes back to writing more about the Assault Frigate in between choosing my untested fleet for tomorrow's match....

Adepticon was fun but I'm exhausted so it's time for a short final Adepticon update!

Congrats to our battle-buddy Mike from Fair Game for his well-deserved win at the Sunday event. Overall a great time was had by all. There were lots of different fleets being flown all over at Adepticon and it's always fun to see what people from outside your community bring.
