Mechanicus equivalent of the Inquisition?

By sands2, in Dark Heresy

As I understand it the fluff implies that the AdMech search out tech heresy independently of the Inquisition, both within their own ranks and beyond. If this is the case does the AdMech have its own equivalent of the Inquisition, and if so what is it called and how does it work?

Any information about the existence, or non-existence, of such an organisation would be much appreciated.

i know the Sollex tech priests have heresy hunters, i would suppose the Skitarri tech guard are meant to hunt out heresy to but i dont think they have a formal thing like the inquisition does. im fairly sure it would be as private as one tech priest is to another with much political infighting and subterfuge.

The Inquisitor's handbook seems to answer this question on page 136. There in the sidebar they discuss the rulers of the Panopticon station in the Lathe system, "members of a secret order known as the Lords Dragon, an ancient and powerful cabal of Armagos tasked with policing the Mechanicus itself and keeping it free from corruption and techno heresy." That sounds pretty definitive.

Also, a long time ago I read something on the Mechanicus talking about how parts of it were divided between various "Collegia," including one "Collegia Extremis" that dealt with Inquisitorial-like duties. However, I believed it perhaps to be only fan created and therefore not something you'd totally trust.

It also hints to me that they may have something to do with the Dragon, the fourth remaining C'Tan Star-God who (the Necron Codex hintrs heavily at) is buried on Mars, and seems to influence certain factions within the Adeptus Mechanicus in a sinister way.

Although I could be reading far, far too much into things. I do that.

The Auxilia Myrmidon of the Ordo Reductor seem to be some kind of "Inquisition-like" force of the Adeptus Mechanicus. At least within the Calixis Sector.

I believe that it is confirmed in the novel, Mechanicum.

Well, a link, yes. I have the book. However, there wasn't any indication that anyone really knows about it. So I think the Dragon Scale armor and the Lords Dragon have coincidental names. Maybe.

But coincidence is not logical... Cogitating.... <ERROR> File not found. Report to nearest chastisement station for remediation.

I have to agree with you on that point. Also mentioned in the same novel is a type of almost secret police called protectors that may do Inquisitor like duties.

We Mechanicus live and die by the dragon, weather we know it or not. Our fate is so tied that it is so much a part of us that it does not raise question. Mechanicus style power armor Dragon Scales, our red robes, our desire of independence, and our machines' fiery spirits. We are the dragon and it is us.

Or, that's at least what my flashlight horde tells me.

Um, what? The Dragon may be somewhat symbolic, but it is also a very real object/being that actually seems to be not entirely related to traditional dragons. Although in one quasi-flashback of such it appears as such, it's more of a room of sorts in its current form. I don't think it has much to do with fire either, at least not compared to the cold implacable drive of the machine.

I think the highest echelon of AdMech have always known about the existence of the Void-Dragon... However, it is highly unlikely if they knew exactly what the Void-Dragon is...

Further weight to my argument lies in the fact that Necron starships ventured into the solar system, coming close to Mars. That really suggests that there is something on the world that they are after.

Hell, they landed on Mars and were there for a little while until they got blown into a crater by the defence fleet.

good old admech engineering when they really want to they can pull out the stops and take out the worst stuff ever lol

Yeah, the whole landing on Mars thing seemed also to be a problem with over reliance on mines. Apparently the Terran system has tons and tons of them, but guess what race has access to a ship class that have cloaking technology that make them invisible to mines? gui%C3%B1o.gif Plus, their ships are wicked fast.

Its nice to be able to manipulate time, isn't it?
