Trying to put together a list with Whisper and the Upsilon. This is what I threw together:

Fire-Control System (2)
General Hux (5)
Inspiring Recruit (1)

Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)

Worthwhile? Not sure if I am maximizing Stridan enough. The range and IR should help the foreseen stress meta. 15 points at the end to throw away on an F/O. Where can I make improvements?

I think keeping Whisper in range of other ships' abilities, even out to range 3 with Stridan, is limiting the Phantom's maneuverability and unpredictability. I like Stridan/Hux better with a Defender or SF, and 1 or 2 pocket aces.

I see what you are saying, I was thinking the Hux action will primarily be for one of the Shuttle's shots. If I get it on the whisper that's just gravy. But I think we are still in an x7 meta and it is hard for me to justify other ships when those are still viable. Do you think the Defender has a chance to out run Striden's ability as well?

x7 has to do at least a 3-speed to get it's benefit. A large base has to do a 2-speed to pace a small base doing 3-speed. 2 speed is conveniently where the Upsilon's greens are. You should be able to easily fly the Stridan within range 3 of any Defender in your list, without restricting the Defender's blessed white K-turn. Ryad makes it even easier.

This list isn't really effective. You're either limiting the Phantom's ending location to R3 of Stridan's next move, OR you're not getting remotely enough benefit from Hux.

When your upgrades begin getting that expensive, you want to make sure you're triggering them every turn, if at all possible. When you're flying a two ship list, you want to be as unpredictable as possible. Unfortunately, this list doesn't accomplish that.

Both ships are solid, they just don't pair that well.

Wampa to force hard decisions on your opponent.

Here is a list I have been running with great success, but you gotta be brave enough against the right list to throw whisper out there with wampa, it is a fun list. You can switch out Kylo for agent kallus for a 3 point bid instead! I just switched to Kylo.

Why did you not go for FCS if you have the points for it? Also, is the action part of Kylo a big hit for Whisper's first shot with no mods? Or do you throw her out at R2 on setup, go 5 straight with the Hyperwave focus?

She needs initiative so no fcs on the shuttle, round 1 placement she and wampa can evade or focus due to hyperwave, then shuttle coordinates focus then you move in r3 shot and kylo the target...... three actions 1 turn, with initiative you get 3 actions on turn 1......... obviously, this depends on opponent and their list......lots of options.......

So you don't deploy her far forward?

Yes generally I do, but not always, when I do, I do exactly what I said up above......token her up try for a range 3 shot with 4 dice and kylo against a ship, typically blinded pilot or pilot skill 0 rest of the game, depends on a lot, list, pilot, what all is coming back at me yada yada.........not sure what made you think that I don't put her and wampa out?? you can palp a crit if whisper isn't in too big of trouble. I have one shotted omega leader, a bunch of a wings and others first turn......ppl get all out of sorts.......just fun to try, obviously it has glaring weak spots, but I love to fly whisper and right now this is the list I am using with her.

Thanks for the dialogue. I love to fly whisper as well. Looking for a new to use her and like the crew options on shuttle for support.

The biggest hurdle I have is that I am from St. Louis and a huge baseball fan. Nothing personal but sports are life.

How has new Palp changed the list? Do you reserve him for Wampa more or less? Situational I'm sure but I think you have to be more deliberate with him now.

New Palp doesn't play as nicely with Wampa anymore. Used to be a perfect combo, as you could let natural rolls from Wampa save Palp for defense. Now, you really can't afford to spend Palp on Offense, unless you're about to kill a ship, or not getting shot back.

Don't recommend in a competitive setting, you could spend points for more reliable setups.

I base it on rolls, I reserve it if to keep Whisper safe 1, then if I didn't need I palp that crit. I 150 percent agree it is a better casual play/less serious tourney build. I like it for Hangar Bay with a power list like parattani too, I only pick it if I like it against both their lists, otherwise I go with power list, e.g. parattani......it has worked well and I have chosen it multiple times in hangar bay.

Do you mean to say you always spend Palp if Whisper is getting shot, otherwise you use it for Wampa's shot?

It kind of sounds like you're using it pre-FAQ Palp, but that could be a wording issue.

Prior to FAQ, I think Wampa & Palp were great buddies. Now, not so much.

Post FAQ, I'm in the camp that says Palp is no longer competitive. Yes, he still has a completely solid ability, but it's no longer worth 8 points, two crew slots, and a sub-optimal ship for as a third of your list just to get the big guy on the table. I just can't see anyone truly justifying it for a "maybe" beneficial result. That's a lot of points you could easily be spending on more consistent benefits.

Naboo Open seems to feel the same way as I do, as Imperials (especially Palp) weren't anywhere near the top tables.

well i did use it prior, but playing new rules it depends on roles, if the attacker rolls 4 hits i palp an evade prior to a whisper roll, if he rolls 1 In take my chances. It isn't perfect, but there are times you can still palp a crit with wampa, if he naturally rolls 1 make it 2, people can take both or you can wipe, as anything in x wing, it's all situational!

and imo palp still works, the safety he provides is just less of a failsafe.
