Grip Inserts

By judgeender, in X-Wing

Does anyone have any experience with the Grip Inserts offered by Escapade Gaming ( http://escapadegaminggear.com/product/anti-slip-inserts )? I can't seem to find them in the U.S. and was hoping to get some feedback on them before deciding if it was worth trying to have them shipped to the U.S. Do they work well? Any problems with them or executing maneuvers acurately with them?

They are popular here in Sweden and most people say they can't go back to just playing with the pastic base after testing them and I agree. They don't hinder the use of manouver templates, they fit nicely under the bases and they prevent alot of the glide you can usually get when playing.

They don't hold the ships down like magnets, but they prevent small bumps from messing up how your ship was standing. Large ships become especially sturdy. I was against them at first since I think a little sliding is part of the game, but I must say it really makes a diffirence.

If you can afford the shipping they are worth the money. I have seen some making their own by cutting up computer mouse mats. The ones you buy are however pre cut and fit's nicely under the bases.

You can try the small rubber 'nubs' to keep pictures in place or on the bottom of project boxes to keep them from scratching tabletops. Most hardware stores carry them or try a craft store.

I've been using fender washers glued to the bottom of the base with the remainder of the base filled in with acrylic tub caulk. Adds some weight to make them bottom heavy and the caulk adds some slip resistance. Cheap too.

You're asking a lot from a tech challenged old fart. Lol!

I'll try and put something up tomorrow.

I actually used a couple of these to make buttons on a prop lightsaber... In theory I have a sheet with only two missing someplace...

I've used washers, the plastic bumpers shown above and have also taken an old mousepad (neoprene) and cut them to size. All are good solutions, though I think the plastic bumpers are probably the easiest to fool with and work well.

Mouse pads work very well, had a couple of players reach over to help slid them on the map and were really surprised as to how they stay in place.

Yep, that's pretty much what I was talking about. Craft places like Michaels should have a selection of sizes. If they stand too proud, they can easily be shaved down and glued to the base with super glue.

I like adding the fender washers for the additional weight. Makes them harder to tip over.

These are what I have been using for years now. Dollar Stores around me all have them. I just put one in each corner of the base. Whether small or large base, they work great for both.
