A lot of Descent models are multi-part, but it being a boardgame, they come pre-assembled for you. As mentioned, there are certain physical limitations regarding what you can and can not cast as one piece.

I had noticed that on a lot of the larger Descent minis, but not on the smaller ones ... if I was at home I would've checked before posting *sigh*

OH MY GOD!!!!

..... what's a Doombringer? Besides one who brings forth doom?

A big, badass, demon-fouled desert beetle-monster.

He's the Uthuk Y'llan legendary unit from their expansion box for Battlelore, with the first being the Chaos Lord, who I am also looking forward to seeing in Runewars. Legendary figures in general.

Barrow Wyrms, Banshees, Roc Warriors, Siege Golems, and the like.

I really like how the rules reference has numbers for each entry and that each bullet under the entry has a sub-number. It's going to make it so much easier to answer rules questions!

I was hoping for a bit more terrain in that box, but I do enjoy that they take the time and give a page for people who may want 3d versions. I actually hope that FFG puts out some articles about making them.

We do need an announcement for mats!!!

Ladybug of DOOOOOOOOM

In game rules terms, he has medium health, but burrows around the battlefield ignoring terrain and enemies, and can lock nearby enemies in place. I'm looking forward to whatever movement shenanigans he brings to RW, probably a tarpit for Viper archers to rain death.

- Core Set only battles mandate using units from the other players core set and use special "Skirmish Rules" (sadly these are on page 21 of the rulebook - a page that they skipped)

Can you clarify what you mean by this. I read through the box that talked about this and all it said was how to parse the upgrades should you be playing with one core.

Still prefer no map myself, but then perhaps I love the RWBG too much.

I was looking forward to writing a narrative. Maybe the lore book will be descriptive enough that I can draw a rough map but I doubt it will have the details that I was looking for.

Isnt the Runebound game board a decent chunk of the map for Terrinoth itself?

Nope, the 2nd edition had a larger map plus 4 board expansions of the same size (frozen north, rain forest, coastline, desert). What we've seen in 3rd edition is only 15% of what was shown in 2nd.

Do you know where I might be able to find decent scans of the 2e boards, or at least high quality pics?

Sure! It's all in the second paragraph of that box:

Quote

BUILDING ARMIES USING ONLY THE CORE SET

For a standard game of RW:TMG, each player builds an army using his collection of figures, trays, and cards. However, if players only have a single core set they share components. Due to the component limitations of a single core set, they must choose one player to receive all the Daqan Lords components and another player to receive all the Waiqar the Undying components. Then, all the remaining upgrade cards are shuffled and dealt randomly to the players.

For this game, players will build smaller armies and play on a smaller play-surface than a a standard game. These rules are described in “Skirmish Rules” section on page 21 of this document.

They are multi part to cast to make them easier, you would have worse mould lines and less detail with single piece casts.. The one way assembly is for new players. Experienced hobbyists can easily cut the pegs off and reposition things.

Ok, I get your point, you're right

Ummm... not what I meant at all

Although, re-reading the text I don't think they way I took it was right either.

To be clear I did not think that the rule was mandating the use of one core set.

What I did think (incorrectly I now believe) is that if each player had only a core they were meant to bolster each others forces with matching units from the other players core lol *sigh*

I might hold off on a mat purchase in case FFG announce their own soon.

I'm sure they said in the video that mats were coming? I definitely heard it somewhere anyway.
