Sea of Blood - Dungeon 51

By RebekahWSD, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Dungeon 51 - The Tavern in Sea of Blood seems to have a small typo when choosing minions.

Line D - You can choose 1 Master Beastman, 2 Beastmen, and 2 Dark Elves.

Problem is, there are no such thing as Dark Elves. There are Deep Elves, and Dark Priest, but as far as I knew, no Dark Elves. Which means, which do I use? The Elves or the Priests?

If this has already been answered somewhere (I did search, and I also don't see Sea of Blood with a faq yet), I'm sorry. And thank you.

I don't know the answer, but i would guess that you have to use "Deep Elves"

The reason i came to the guess is: "It is easier to mix up Dark and Deep instead of Elves and Priest".

+1 on that.

We ran into the same issue and we left it up to the Overlord on which one to choose. He chose the Dark Priests over the Deep Elves.

i can see why he chose dark priests :)

My guess is Deep Elves. FFG probably called them Deep Elves to get away with stealing them from Forgotten Realms...but when they refer to them they sometimes slip up and call them what they truly are...Dark Elves aka Drow! I am perfectly fine with having Drow-like elves in the game!

lol

A similar thing happens in TOMB. The designers are D&D vets and their term is Target Number or TN, yet they have typos in a few places that say DC or Difficulty Check. This is because they are so used to DC in D&D that to them it did not look like an error when proofreading. (They admit this as well)

D&D stole dark elves from Tolkien, so its only poetic justice if Descent steals them FR. :)

Must say I forgot they were in the Silmarillion. And of course my other fave D&D character the Mind-Flayer was probably stolen from Lovecraft!

D&D is a hodgepodge of various fantasy and sci-fi stuff. Gygax and Arneson admitted to as much. That's not really a bad thing though. You'd have to range far and wide to find ideas that haven't appeared already elsewhere. To get the really unique and original monsters in D&D you have to look in places like the original Fiend Folio, home of the Flumph.
