How would a Dark jedi get his crystal?

Any ideas on how to allow him to get his crystal in a way that is in line with that sort of character?

In the just-released Darth Vader comic, picking up where RotS leaves off:

The emperor explains that crystals are "made to bleed," turning them red. He then sends Vader to hunt a Jedi, to obtain a new crystal, which he can then dominate.

I especially enjoy how Vader lashed out at Palpatine & the explanation of what happened to all the lightsabers the Jedi had.

I can live with this new headcanon. But now I'm wondering if it can go the opposite way. Can a Jedi "heal"the bloodied crystal. My mind pictures one going to the pound to rescue a scared aggressive puppy, taking it home, snuggling with it on the couch...

In the Ahsoka novel, the titular character does just that

So in the game, how would one go about doing it? I have a player with Royal Shadow Guards Lightsaber pike.

They basically just have to form a bond with the crystal. It works exactly the same as when they would bond with any other crystal.

Disciples of Harmony specifically has rules on Corrupted Crystals, and how to purify them. One of the key requirement is that it requires a Light Side Paragon (morality 71+) to purify a corrupted crystal.

Oh, good. I'm hoping to track down a copy this week .

I imagine that crystal-bleeding is more of a tradition among the Sith than a necessity for dark-side users to obtain their crystal. They most likely attune the same way light-side users do, though by channeling emotion rather than serenity. The Sith are known to enjoy rubbing pocket-sand in the Jedi Order's eyes, after all.

the one thing the Ahsoka novel spoke of is that the force guides them to their crystal(from the novel), darksiders cannot tell the difference between glass and a lightsaber crystal (from Dave Filoni at last years celebrations) and apparently the sith have to earn one from a Jedi and then force it to their will (Darth Vader Comic) and is indeed in DoH. I dare say we will learn more as the DV comic continues.

Bleh!

New canon LS color and bonding explanations can **** right off at my table and the tables of my friends - 'bleeding' crystals? Seriously? This sounds like the edgy, stupid explanations that a five year old comes up with for his totally original Sith OC (do not steal).

If you want a darksider to obtain a crystal, send them on the same vision quest as a lightsider, and adjust it to reflect his alignment. This gives great opportunities to tempt them with redemption or to let them deepen their connection to the dark side. Also, unless your darksider really wants it, don't necessarily stick them with a red blade. Some of the best EU villains didn't necessarily use the 'I am evil' color, after all.

...just about everything in Star Wars. Seriously, the setting and everything in it is made for children. We keep trying to 'adult' it and build up good reasons/rationales for what shows up, but the foundation won't stand up to any stress.

Bleeding or artificially made, why not both?

Same with clear to be turned a color, or already a color?

You're not wrong with that assessment. Still, we as tabletop gamers get the nice ability to decide which parts are too dumb/ridiculous even for our tables. So I'll keep crystals to having set colors (and take player wishes into account secretly), and I won't allow someone to fly with a copter-saber even if they get statted.

...Unless for some reason all of my players are swapped with their mirror universe selves and, instead of taking over the world, suddenly want bleeding and color changing crystals or whatever. Then I guess I'd give in. ... And make constant snide remarks at any dark sider for making his crystal into a crying emo.

[snip] i have a few ideas on how this will play out, which one do you think works best?:

1. In the Travelers dwelling the wookie finds the remains of the Jedi knight, takes his lightsaber for his own and slays the beast with it. (Con: because it's a Jedi the saber will probably not be red).

2. The wookie slays the beast (turns out it's a krayt dragon) and claims one of it's pearls as his lightsaber crystal. (Con: would probably be cooler if he got the lightsaber first so he got to use it in the battle against the beast).

3. The holy cave turns out is a Force Vergence and a crystal cave, it's alignment is between the light and the dark. The wookie faces of against a dark vision and will use his rage and hate to defeat it. In doing so he will finally fall completely to the dark side (because his morality is already pretty low so I think this would do it). In a raged filled attack he will defeat the vision and out of the dark a crystal will fall into view. As he comes about he discovers that in his rage he struck the wall and smashed a crystal formation which produced a red lightsaber crystal for him to claim, born out of his anger in a poetic way. In the Travelers dwelling he will find the necessary tools and instructions to build a lightsaber which he will slay the beast with and prove his right as the Traveler.

What do you guys think?

I like the third one the best.

How did it play out in the end?

In the end I ended up not using it. I had to shorten my campain and invent another way of giving the player a crystal but it turned out great in the end!

With the other partymembers occupied or trapped in other parts of the enemy base, the wookie was the closest to the main objective; stopping a chemical weapon from detonating an airborn version of the resurrected rakghoul virus. Between him and the bomb emerges a rogue jedi on the walkway, wielding two red lightsabers. The last time they met the wookie was seriously injured and got his *** kicked. He charges with his vibro-axe and holds his ground. He rolls a Triumph and catches one of her hands as she slashes, crushing her wrist and forces her to drop one of her lightsabers. He picks it up, charges again and in the end manages to impale her. The wookie stares into her eyes as he robs her of her second lightsaber and kicks her of the walkway, making her fall thousands of feet onto solid concrete floor. It was a really epic moment.

So I haven't looked at any of the replies so I apologize, but according to new canon the sith take their crystals from their fallen foes. Now I know that your player isn't a Sith proper but that could be something that could very well fall in line with them.
