The Auzituck Gunship does not look Star Wars but thats ok

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

It dawn on me that Auzituck Gunship really does not look very Star Wars, I think its more of a Protoss Design. I am really ok with FFG/Disney bring us something new and different. I love my Ties and the classic ships, but as we move forward and NEW happens, I am more excited then anything else. The half arc is really cool also, in fact this wave has me more excited then anything I have seen in a long time and I am calling it anything Ep8 related is going to be amazing just watch,

Sort of reminds me of the ship from the sci-fi film that had Robert Vaughn, John Boy and a couple of other celebrities. Space equivalent of the Magnificent Seven. I think it was Galaxy of Terror but I may be wrong.

For me, it will join the long list of 'no thanks' craft. I'm not interested in Star Wars 'Wacky Races'. But each to his own, and I hope lots of folk have a ball with it.

Well what does look $tar War$?

  • X-wing and TIE Fighter (no duh)
  • Lambda Shuttle, Y-wing, TIE-Interceptors and any ship that was in the OT.
  • Firespray as the only ship in both OT and Prequels.
  • YT-1300 as it is the only ship in both OT and the Sequels
  • The Yellow ship form the first awful prequel movie
  • The OT knock offs A-wings and X-wings in episode 2 and 3

Well there you go, those ships are irrefutably $tar War$.

However you could add in

  • TIE Defender from the old X-wing/TIE-fighter series
  • Ships from the Disney $tar War$ cartoons.
  • Familiar ships from Lucas Arts such as the YT-2400

Now with all of those which ships in X-wing still doesn't fit $tar War$. Only one and that is the Imperial Raider.

The last starfighter?

Actually, the rounded, squat kind of look reminds me of a few of the sprites for Wookiee Units in Galactic Battlegrounds, where the Punisher is also from.

It's from the movie "Spark of Rebellion", the kick-off for SW:Rebels. That's about as Star Wars as one can get...

Have a ball, or get a ship with really nice. . .nacelles.

I'd rather have a LAAT/i, but eh, I've seen worse ships in this game.

Sometimes it's better to be a bit more original than to try too hard to be Star Wars, see: T-70, TIE/fo, TIE/sf, Raider.

I remember that movie, Battle Beyond the Stars. It is really really bad, but when you are a little kid in the 80s, you go all stranger things on it and love the thing.

That malevolent guy and his obsession about implanting arms...

The gun ship looks similar to the LAAT the clones troopers used and it has some similarity to the mist hunter.

The ship is very swoopy and easily would fit in one of the prequel movies.

The only two ships that don't feel Star Wars like to me is the e wing and the ship that dr Alphara flies.

i keep thinking the e wing is a battlestar galattica ship.

I don't know about that... I find it very Wookiee-e and that to me is a handful of Star Wars flavour right there. There's SO MANY different aspects to the Star Wars Galaxy and after all it's a whole Galaxy full of different Species and Planets and saying something doesn't fit in there doesn't really make sense in my opinion. But on the other hand I know what you mean and I can see why that makes sense to you :) I'm just really happy to see some more Wookiees and creative design space. But generally I'm just very happy with anything FFG does. (despite so many people apparently thinking differently. I'd like them to try and perfectly balance a game with these kind of proportions ;) )

I like the Wookiee Winnebago.

There are some odd looking starships in the SW universe.

I like that not all of them look like X-Wings. The grungy, industrial tech look. But I do agree that that look is pretty iconic for the SW universe.

So agree and disagree at the same time? :D

BINGO! That's it. Galxy of Terror was another "B" movie.

If you think that was bad, go back and watch some of the 'winners' from the late 50s and early 60s. The ones' that Ray Harryhausen did the special effects for are pretty decent considering it was stop motion or other practical effects. Long, long before computers.

It's interesting to see some big named movie stars in these early flicks before they became household names.

The look is putting me off as well. It just won't look right with the rest of my rebel fleet. I had a hard time justifying the ARC-170, given that I'm trying to stick to Rebellion Era ships. In the end, I like the look of the ARC, bought into the retrofit story, and went with it. The only thing drawing me to The Wookie gunship is possibly crafting a homebrewed Trandoshan slaver/Wookie gunship showdown mission.

The Last Starfighter starred none of those people and shared no plot points with The Magnificent Seven, lol. Did you just guess the oldest science fiction film you could think of?

At least 30 years, and one owner too late to be "as Star Wars as one can get".

Though, to be fair, it isn't like the previous owner didn't have his ridiculous failures at spacecraft design.

The Naboo Straighter is hardly a failure at starfighter design. Its different and distinct as are all the Naboo designs. I think there's a big difference between a failure and disliking something.

I get its subjective but at the end of the day I feel like some just want the universe to be varying shades of grey bulk style cruisers.

I'll just chime in and say there hasn't really been a ship design I've disliked in Star Wars.

The astromech doesn't even actually fit in it, lol. That's a failure.

At the end of the day I feel like some people just don't accept that Star Wars had a pretty defined aesthetic which captured imagination for 20 years before the chrome banana tadpole fighter showed up. There's possibly a difference between everything being a "grey bulk cruiser" and "Not completely stupid and ugly looking."

That Auzituck is definitely an odd one. But here's the thing.

It's a wookiee ship. It's also the first spacefaring one we've ever seen. You know what it does look like? The Wookiee stuff from RoTS. So it's definitely Star Wars, and it looks doubly derived from the LAAT/I.

"Battle beyond the Stars"

Decades then I saw it, basically just remembering the clone assasination attempt (mindlink w/o range restriction!) and the desillusioned fed upp asassin.

I need this in game, I just did skin-tone practice and I need a ship to display it on the table no later then right-the-hell-now.

You might get disqualified if displayed on a table at a tournament. Or you might become the MVP for the model alone. If I saw it I'd vote for MVP.
