Snap Shot

By Schu81, in X-Wing

Hello X-Wing community!

I am wondering about the "Snap Shot" elite skill.

There are quite a few people on this board, who seem to love this and even call it a fix for the A-Wing.

I dont't really understand why, can somebody please explain why this could be better than Push the Limit, Predator or Veteran Instincts?

Snap Shot seems to provide one additional attack on range one with only 2 dice, which can not be modified.

This means you'll most likely have about 1 hit which can easily be canceled by ships with 3 agility dice.

I just think Snap Shot can be awesome to trigger certain mechanics like stress maybe, but.... what's it good for on an A-Wing?

You won't be able to do any damage but still it costs your elite skill slot.

Since you can take two EPTs on A-Wings, you can pair this with Crack Shot to get maximum damage output. 2 Dice are still gonna do 2 hits 25% of the time (on average of course) and considering Crack Shot, plus your main attack afterwards and the fact that Snap Shot happens before they have a chance to token up, gives the A-Wing a nice punch at 20 points for the cheapest (PS 3 with title, Chardaan Refit, Crack Shot, Snap Shot). You can add ATs for some survivability and you still have an annoying fighter at 22 points.

SnapShot with combos like R3-A2 create it where you're not looking to do damage, but just put stress on before they take their action. Rhymer with Tactician also does this.

Its not an EPT for most ships but it's a great one in certain situations. Plus squeezing an extra damage here or there is always good.

A single A-Wing with Snapshot won't do much, that's true.

But 4 or even 5 can suddenly create a minefield that is very difficult to evade completely.
Against token-dependent ships, or against high-HP/low-Agi ships this works wonders because you can attack before they token up, and often even block their action, too.

A 2red vs 3green attack does much more damage on average than a 3red (even 3red+focus) vs 3green+focus+evade. And the difference only increases if you have Juke or Crackshot, which both can be used with Snapshot.

So using Snapshot more than doubles your damage output and is super fun to fly.

Green squadron pilots have an ept with really low pilot skill, allowing them to move first and get those sweet snapshots before other ships get actions.

I've been having fun with snap shot lately.

2x Gand Findsman, snap shot, fcs, vector thrusters, intelligence agent, inertial dampeners

1x Gand Findsman, snap shot, fcs, Mist Hunter title, tractor beam, intelligence agent, inertial dampeners

Very respectable outcomes so far.

I have been toying with 3 Juking snapshot A-wings with a Dagger Squadron B-wing w/FCS, Ops Specialist, and tractor beam. Don't know if I like it better than throwing Swarm Leader Pava in the mix. Hope to have more clarity in the next week or two of games.

i thought the exact same as you, then I played Snap A-Wings... they're a lot better than they 'should' be.

Snapshot Awings with op spec is awesome. Been flying Stay On Leader's list above and havent lost yet (4-0). They tear apart large low agi ships. Decimators are gone in two rounds. I even played a game against Corran Horn and he was gone in one round of attacks. Blocking and snapshots, then having range 1 attacks with a focus (thanks to op spec) is really powerful. you can get as many shots as an 8 tie swarm.

I have also played against three Omega S/Fs and they are tough! Snapshot sets up their FCS, and if you can't get out of their range 1, its 4 dice fully modded coming at ya.
