Ikr? They should create a camapaign or a mini campaing for each boxed expansion and just continue to reprint and sell their existing line. And they really should implement a better save/load feature.
The Future of 2nd Edition
As said on BGG, I don't buy this. I work for ANA as freelance tech editor, I've been involved in something like 120 projects between alpha, beta, FAQ draft and stuff, and I've even got guys working at FFG flying over to my place to have pizza and gamenights (so, we're more friends than just people working together) and every time I ask "hey, is this gameline dead?", I always get the answer "sorry, we can't say". So, while after 4 years in the business there are still things I don't have any idea of, the BGG OP after a few months has news as important as this? I don't buy it. Plus, creating a new account on BGG just to make this post? Again, don't buy it.
Descent and Imperial Assault have been both in production TOGETHER for a few years, and Road to Legend just tripled the sales of the line (according to Chris Petersen's InFlight report, 2016), so, shutting down the line / rebooting it has absolutely no sense for me. Additionally, with the loss of the GW rights on Warhammer-ish stuff, they have no valid fantasy IP but Terrinoth, and honestly Terrinoth without Descent would sell a lot less (the only boardgame lines still active set in this universe are Descent and RuneBound; and the Sadler bros clearly stated on BGG they tried to reskin WHQ in Terrinoth, but the project was abandoned), sinking de facto any chance to see other games set in Terrinoth, or IP books, and stuff like that.
This of course doesn't mean that they will keep expanding the line, but not expanding the line doesn't mean a new edition, or the game going out of print: Arkham Horror: the boardgame clearly showed how a game could be still a bestseller even in absence of constant new content.
Finally, it's worth noticing how this post on BGG was made immediately before a long holiday w-end, so that there's no way anyone from FFG could eventually answer to that illation.
So, long story short, not buying a cent of what's written in that post
Whole this posting on BGG seems to be FUD or Black PR work from some kind of paid troll user. I've noticed increasing sales of all Terrinoth related stuff here in Poland, there are constant demands for PoD expansion's translations(the way we can access H&M pack in Polish, or LTD Packs is to buy English version and translation PoD pack)-there is movement in this matter. That would be not wise to drop the current product line at this point. Descent is from my point of view second best selling and most popular product beside X-wing and Imperial Assault line from FFG offer.

I doubt FFG would have answered it even if it was full of names and sources. They are a surprisingly uncommunicative company by today's standards. At least where Descent is concerned I have never seen an employee response beyond the answers to submissions in the email system.

I bought 29 expansions for runebound 2nd edition, but after the line had been shut down for a long time I was happy to see a 3rd edition (until I played it).
Regardless of what ffg do with descent they need to start releasing more app supported games and not just adding apps to existing games.

Based on the long delay to the software team correct new reported bugs for the apps (RTL and MOM), in the delay to translate content (the MOM DLC) and publish regular new digital content , and the new jobs offers for the FFG digital branch, I conclude that the software team is pretty small in the moment for the demand.
My guess - they are fully committed in the development of one or more new products (like IA app) and dont have the ideal workforce to produce more content.
I dont buy the BGG post for a simple reason - In the IA case, FFG would never say that they would be developing an application (or confirmed) if they were not already authorized to produce it.
As the FFG IA app goes -I would ABSOLUTELY believe that they've committed to more than they can legally do.
Have you looked at the licensing/copyright info on the FFG Star Wars dice app? Hasbro and EA got their names on that thing without contributing in any way to the app, or the games it supports. They're literally making licensing fees off FFG "because they can". Translation: someone(s) threatened a very costly legal battle over some pretty ambiguous grey licensing issues, and it was better to just give them a cut than try to fight things in court.
EA has held a pretty tight reign on the license for Star Wars since acquiring it. They've shut down several open source and free projects that used the Star Wars name -something Lucasarts never did, so long as people weren't trying to profit from it. You can bet that EA would drag FFG straight to court if they didn't get a licensing fee for each downloaded copy of an IA app. And of course, Hasbro would probably jump right in with their army of lawyers who don't have to be right to cost you a lot of money...
And also consider the fact that you really can't get away with charging for such an app outright. Especially not after Descent got it's version for free. Even if the app itself is free, you can bet EA and possibly Hasbro would point to the sales boost that came from doing one with Descent, and they'd have plenty of extra leverage to demand some steep license arrangement over the whole mess.
Curiously, I haven't seen FFG actually put any kind of specifics out in writing regarding the app -none at all. It's all been verbal "confirmations" so far as I can tell. (I think some light reference might have been mentioned via their Twitter account at one point, but nothing detailed.) I mean hell, it doesn't take 2+ years to make one of these things -especially when the groundwork is already their from Road to Legend.
The serious lack of info for so long really doesn't make sense as a development issue, it just smells a whole lot like FFG either trying to figure out a perfect legal line to follow, or trying to negotiate with Hasbro and EA behind closed doors. And frankly, I could imagine that EA or Hasbro could easily demand more than is reasonable from FFG, which would effectively sink the project.
Almost hoping that the IA app is so full of red tape that it becomes non-viable, leaving FFG to need to invest more heavily into Descent as the app product of choice with more content and expansions.
Personally I would like the following:
BIG WISHES:
1: More Descent App Campaigns (make em purchasable or dependant on expansions, dont mind)
2: Imperial Assault App
LITTLE WISHES:
1: More Imperial Assault physical content
2: More Descent (2nd) physical content
fingers crossed!
Regardless whether that thread was legit or not, there hasn't been any news about Descent for a long time. 8 new articles in the "News"-section of this site today alone, and none for Descent the ~last year(?)
I hope it's not dead/dying.
With that, I wouldn't mind a revised or 3e of Descent. Maybe something along the lines of what they did with Mansions; re-packages the everything into monster and tile set and include new hero and monster cards in the new base game.

...
Sure Julia. You re right that players like me who owned the physical content prior to the app should'nt be so fussy. It comes on top of the classical game they love so much.
Now lot of people started "the Descent" with the app. I know people who convinced friends to buy lot of descent stuff just for the Road to Legend experience. Imagine ! Already 3 campaigns and the Delve in one year. They all assumed a support for at least 2 years more (new quests free or not, even eager to pay).
No one could have expected that FFG may stop the spring so rapidly. Yeah sure people should not be so naive, but we are all when it comes to passion and if all that turns out bad what a cruel deception ( to add to RIP Latari Elves).
No good at all for FFG image when precisely KS and competitors brings so good solo games on the table (GloomHaven, 7th Continent, etc...)
It is not heartily that i say that, i am a FFG fan to the bone (Arkham JCE what a game
) but i can forsee the reactions of my friends and game buddies...
I'm a newcomer to Descent. I mainly play with my family and the co-op nature works much better for us than the original competetive format. In fact, if it weren't for the app I probably wouldn't be playing it at all.
I've also recently started playing IA with a group of Star Wars crazy friends and while I am enjoying it I much prefer the fantasy setting of Descent - for me the Descent game style in a Sci-Fi setting is much too dry and uninspiring, even with the Star Wars IP.
I'd definitely buy more app campaigns for Descent if they came out and I'd most likely shell out for new boxed expansions too if they have a theme that interests me (I haven't bought Mists of Bilehall or Chains that Rust because undead themes just aren't my thing... plus they don't seem to offer much value for money for those of us who only play co-op). I'd also probably buy Descent 3 if it was ever made, as long as it draws on the positives of IA (IA's line of sight rules are much better and I prefer the points based group system), and has full app intergration. I won't be buying anything for IA even if an app is released (one of my friends owns it all, so I really don't have to) and I definitely won't be buying any of the Runewars minatures stuff - that just doesn't interest me at all (I'm much more of a board and card gamer than a minatures guy).
So, having read the posts on BBG I'd be mightily dissappointed if they were true and I'd really hope for a positive Descent based announcement at Gen Con but I don't expect there'll be one.
There has been nothing announced for this game in the last six month and my only slight sliver of hope is that there was an equally long, if not longer, period of silence for Runebound before the new expansion was announced. I'm pretty sure Descent has sold a whole lot better than Runebound 3rd Edition has, so here's hoping that they don't just ditch it now.
I hardly write on this forum, but this time I think it is worth of it.
I used to consider myself a great fan of FFG: I own all Battlestar Galctica, Eldritch Horror, Descent 1st and 2nd editions, Battlelore 2nd edition, Mansion of Madness 1st and 2nd editions, Civilization the Board Game and more... and when I say all I mean every single expansion published... And I have cinvinced a lot of friends to play them. Even who usually prefers simpler and shorter casual games.
But I have never been a fan either of Games Workshop or of Wizards of the Coast, with their miniature and card games. May be the game world is heading in that direction. But it's not mine.
Till a few months ago, I used to wait with impatience any news published on FFG. Since it was acquired by Asmodee, unfortunately, everything is changed. They are pushing miniatures and cards, cards and miniatures. It's not for me...
With sadness,
a former huge fan of FFG from Italy...

So, this is by far the longest stretch without any kind of announcement. I have to say, the radio silence doesn't fill me with much confidence.
On the positive side, working through the campaigns we already have is a pretty slow process, so we still have many more hours of gameplay ahead of us to enjoy.
When I read the article about mixing XW, IA, and EtoE/AoR/FaD/FA I had hope FFG would do the same for D2e.
But, here we are waiting for news since January 2017 for an announcement of a new expansion or what's to happen to Descent.
I still have hopes for an RPG but at this point FFG would have to do something amazing.

You can use a lot of your descent heroes in a lot of other terrinoth games. When are get the terrinoth setting for genesys you will be able to combine everything.
Descent has been in production for 12 years, ffg isn't about to let the game did now. The worst possible outcome would be if they passed the name onto a completely different type of game like they did with arkham horror.
well there still 8 unused Char-artworks hidden in he app, so yeah. at least these will come out.

If anything this is a negative signal. These have been there a long time and there is no information, which suggests they are abandoned.
If the game were still alive, FFG would have said something. Their silence is the most important news :-(
FFG representatives have stopped posting here or over at BGG years ago. This is definitely no indication that there will be no further physical or virtual content.
Last communication with FFG reps via BGG was around 5years ago as I can remember, they don't even bother to give any responses here. Lack of official FFG rep comments proves nothing , its kinda normal state.

they are the more silent type of company. so i think we will see a bright future. lets talk after gencon. we should see some new stuff there. keep calm. and game one
