What works well with the falcon?

By Dansolo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone. So I tend to lean towards the empire for the bulk of the time I play. However, I'm trying to put together a couple of decent rebel squads from what I have. As the falcon has a turret I thought I'd start with that. Just stuck on what upgrades it should have and what to pair it with. The sets I have are; original core set, x wing expansion, b wing expansion, a wing expansion, millennium falcon, lambda shuttle, tie expansion, tie advanced, tie bomber and a tie interceptor.

any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Could try the good old Han shoots first!

for a squad mate maybe Luke for regen shenanigans

Luke skywalker

lone wolf

problem being you'll be missing lone wolf and c3p0 as they come with the yt2400 and rebel corvette but its more a fun list anyway.

as for something more tournament legal and competitive unfortunately going to need more expansions/cards.

hopefully the more learned xwingers on here can suggest something better with what you've got.

Thanks for the reply.

Hopefully I'll be picking up a couple more ships this weekend.

Hmmm...it looks like it's been a while since you've gotten anything new. Were you casually into the game, then dropped out for a while?

By getting the Rebel Aces pack, and only that, you could field a weaker version of a Han/Jake pairing. There are still plenty of points left to move around. That Jake is pretty solid aside from the lack of Autothrusters, but unless you want to start going down the dark path of buying ships solely for one or two upgrade cards, I wouldn't recommend it.

Ghost, if you want to drop the cash for it. Lando + Hera (w/ Finn) = 5-6 focused/target locked attacks per turn. Same pilot skill means you can use Lando to burn any evades/focus tokens on your opponent before smashing them.

I've only recently discovered the game and started playing, hence the small collection and I've got some catching up to do. Rebel aces is probably one I will pick up this Saturday.

I feel like there's only two ways to go with this game...either all the way hard with a ton of money or slow and steady. Slow and steady works great if you're just playing with friends and everyone builds their collection at the same pace. If you're playing with a local group, then it'll probably be harder to be competitive without spending a lot of money (or a lot of proxies).

A friend brought it over a few weeks ago and I've been hooked since. I'm buying them relatively frequently but having kids gets in the way. I'm really just playing casually with friends at the moment. May enter some local tournaments later in the year though. Spending most of my free evenings watching YouTube videos of people playing etc.

I think you have the ideal setup right now and would caution you about getting too deep, unless you want to find yourself having invested hundreds of dollars in the game in a couple months. I got into the game with a buddy deeper than I'd have preferred, I question whether we should have just slowed our roll. Looking stuff up online and wanting to play in local tournies makes it a trap, because then you'll find you have to buy a bunch of stuff to field competitive lists. If 90+% of your games are against friends, then you really only have to remain competitive among yourselves.

Trust me, I get the lure of finding out more about the game...I do that with most of my hobbies. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, though.

First and foremost, welcome to X-Wing! It's a very fun game with a large community so I hope you stick with it. I recommend you and your friends proxy upgrade cards. Even at game stores, most casual players don't care if you do as long as they know what you're flying so they aren't surprised (have a print out or have your list on your phone, etc). This accomplishes several things. It gives you more list building opportunities with the ships and pilots you have on hand atm. It also educates you as to what upgrades come with the expansions which could help direct your purchasing decisions if you're not out to be a completest (I just started playing this past October and are also under family budgetary constraints). I also recommend you keep your eye on Craigslist ("Home of the Desperate" as I like to call it) in your area. This game is popular and people are getting in and out of it all the time so you might find someone looking to offload their X-Wing stuff for cheap.

Back to your original query for list suggestions. Given your ships and pilots on hand, and your desire to field the Falcon, might I suggest the following (proxy the upgrades):

Chewbacca — YT-1300 42
Rage 1
Inspiring Recruit 1
Kanan Jarrus 3
Tactical Jammer 1
Ship Total: 48
Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R4-D6 1
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 26
Blue Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 22
Fire-Control System 2
Hera Syndulla 1
B-Wing/E2 1
Ship Total: 26

100 pts

Chewie shrugs of crits. Rage gives him a focus token and a reroll of up to all of his dice at range 2-3. Kanan opens up the YT-1300 dial so you're not limited to green maneuvers to clear stress and Inspiring Recruit makes sure you can clear two stress tokens so Chewie can "Rage" again next round (assuming he can take an action).

Put Biggs in Chewie's "6" to get him an extra evade die thanks to Falcon's Tactical Jammer They're both PS 5 so you can orchestrate this easily by having Chewie move first.

The B=Wings dial is red heavy. Hera opens the dial up and FCS gives you some offensive dice modifications even when stressed. B-Wings melt quick but with Biggs soaking up attacks, hopefully for multiple rounds of combat, and w/ Hera making your maneuvers somewhat unpredictable, you have an excellent bumper with the Blue @ PS 2 that can also put out some damage.

Purchase and build your kit as you see fit but I do have one specific purchasing recommendation. Get the new core set (recommend your friends do to if they don't have it). The crits in the updated damage deck are far less crippling to some builds than the original set and if you do end up playing with people outside of friends, say at a game store for instance, the new deck will be expected. Plus it gets you an extra 3 attack/defense dice, extra templates and range rulers, a T-70 and 2 x Tie F/Os. Some good pilots and upgrades too.

I like running a fully tooled-up PS9 Poe with a tanky Chewbacca build. Chewie just snowplows through the enemy while Poe dives in and eliminates targets, stripping TLs if necessary.

I like a tanky Chewie w/ 2 x TLT Golds myself.

Double Falcon! I've not flown this yet, but I really want to. This Chewie is the same cost as a fully-kitted Poe, and I always end up having to fly Poe out of the fight for too long or flat out killed. Rey will be the primary target, but then they have to deal with that other 360 PWT that just. won't. die.

Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Smuggling Compartment (0)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Chewbacca (42)
Draw Their Fire (1)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
"Chopper" (0)

Thank you so much for all the help and advice guys, especially when you said to go easy and not go straight out and. It tonnes of ships, I'm sure my wife would appreciate that. Haha! I think the newer core set is certainly something I'll pick up. As you say, it had more dice, a damage deck, movement templates, ships etc. It's pretty cheap over here too, roughly £24.

Playing tomorrow night with a couple of beers at my house. Can't wait!
