Skurrg Discussion.

By tsuruki, in X-Wing

Pretty sweet ship, i'll have 2 please!

Interesting facts to notice:

1: It's a twin faction ship! Rebel dial + Scum dial, there seems to be only one rebel pilot though. The rebel pilot seems to have two different cards, one rebel and one scum with a different text.

2: 10 hitpoints at a base price of 24 points! By comparison, the venerable B-wing has 8 HP for 21. Is the dial going to be real bad or is the B-wing just THAT old/bad?

3: There's a 3 speed tallon roll on one of the dials!

4: The pack contains an upgrade card probably named "Minelayer/ing map" and a card probably named "Bomb/let generator". Their effects are currently unknown but take note, the pack contains TWO bomb tokens. The "bomb" card is unique so what possible reason is there for there to be two bomb tokens?

5: The "Cruise missile" card is a 2-of despite the ship only having 1 slot, signifying that they hope for the card to be popular enough to field multiples of.

6: What famous astromechs started their names with R-4? Judging from his artwork, it could be "R4 - E1" who seems to have been able to drive vehicles, NOT been able to repair stuff and chart hyperspace routes, and was buddy-buddy with BoShek.

As a Generic lover I wouldnt hesitate to just fly the PS1 guy raw!

I do like the ship but that 24 points for the base pilot doesn't leave much room for many upgrades.

I also wonder whether or not this will be more of a rebel ship or more of a scum ship.

Scurrg has literally everything the universe has to offer...except a cannon slot.

Does it matter? NO!

Let's pray they have a decent bomb laying capabilities, for I will grab two of these majestic creatures.

Judging from the images there is a PS8 Unique pilot available to the Rebels that's it, no Generic available to them so wont be seeing more than 1 of these ships on the rebels side, very much still a Scum ship.

That depends, when the new-feel dust settles a ship is usually only flow with the one pilot that turns out to be OP, if there is no such pilot the ship is'nt flown. Who is to say that this pilot wont be the Rebel one :)

I'll fly it regardless! Like How I fly Generic Starvipers all the time!

I'm 95% sure the bomb upgrade for the Scurrg is a bomblet generator, a the prototype of the same name used by Nym in Starfighter. The draw was near unlimited bombs, something FFG hints at. I also assume it will take up two slots, as that seems to be an X-Wing/Armada theme this time around - and we see the other two ships with their own versions.

Title totally gives Rebels a Trash-stromech slot, tho only for uniques. Genius has a new home!

The tradition continues where pilots gAin different abilities in different factions. This works even in subfactions!

Goes along with unlimited missiles.

I feel like the Bomblet Generator will be something along the lines of dropping 2 bombs with the left & right bank templates... And seeing as they use a different design of token, perhaps a weaker version of proton bomb? Possibly just a single face-down rather than face-up damage card?

With unlimited bombs, that would be pretty busted. I feel like it will just be 1 damage, range 1. But I really know nothing at this point.

24 points leaves plenty of room for upgrades. You just don't run 4 of them.

I'm guessing bomblet generator is double bomb slot and drops 2 'seismic' bombs (1 damage r1) with 1 banks and is reusable. Mine map discusses doing something during setup forces and any number of bomb upgrades. My guess is discarding action bombs to place them during setup.

R4-E1 seems likely. He was in the Star Wars LCG alongside Bo Shek.

I'm really digging the option to bring a systems slot and a droid, or have a crew slot. I don't think this will get full on U-Boat crazy but with all the upgrade slots this thing has it seems like there are a lot of things you can do with it allowing it to be a real toolbox ship.

The rebel pilot is Nym. Same as the top Scum pilot. The article says that Nym can work for scum or rebels.

If only that title didn't drop crew. Could you imagine having bomblet generator, Genius, AND Sabine all in one ship?

And number 1 target.

Yes. Which is why FFG has wisely made it not possible.

Plus, the Havoc lost its crew when it was refitted to use droids for the copilot and gunner, so it fits "canonically."

I just love the fact that this opens the door for split-faction ships straight out of the box, rather than needing separate releases.

What seems a bit odd to me is the 2 dials. It's a lot of 'wasted' cardboard space since FFG's own rules clearly states the dial doesn't need to match the faction.

The Scurrg could have had a single Scum (or faction-neutral) dial.

It's not actually a waste of cardboard. All small ships have the same amount of cardboard in them and if you look at some releases there is definitely space left over for more stuff, whole dials. Look at the Auzituc for example and the Aggressor. Those cardboard plates are so lightly packed with tokens that they both doubled up on numerical tokens if only to fill space, add to this the fact that the Skurrg is likely a "mid" size ship like the Punisher and K-Wing. The cardboard regardless of content is always printed in full colour and size, leaving the only extra expense in the little fastener that holds the dial together, even in this case I bet the cost of getting the lil plastic piece inside it's zip bag is a bigger expense than the plastic itself.

Besides, the extra dial mean's we're all that more likely to buy 2 deluxe dials for just the one ship!

Also while you can legally fly a ship with a different faction dial, every ship in the game HAS a dial for every faction that can fly it

Alternatively, assuming one can find a 3rd party Scurrg model of the right scale, this may allow Scum players to field 2 Scurrg bombers from a single ship pack.

I like that they give the dials for each faction (though each rebel dial after the first will be a spare) - but that is probably why we won't get two bombs types in the pack.
