First attempt at Dengar any ideas welcome

By Misfit Toy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

JumpMaster 5000: · Dengar (33)
Predator (3)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Tactician (2)
· R5-P8 (3)
Y-Wing: Syndicate Thug (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Z-95 Headhunter: Black Sun Soldier (13)
Z-95 Headhunter: Black Sun Soldier (13)

Trade munitions Failsafe and a tactician for K4.

Otherwise, looks decent.

I'd make that Thug a TLT. Adding the previous suggestion, something like this:

(100)

Dengar (47) - JumpMaster 5000
Predator (3), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Extra Munitions (2), K4 Security Droid (3), R5-P8 (3), Guidance Chips (0)

Syndicate Thug (25) - Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), Unhinged Astromech (1)

Black Sun Soldier (14) - Z-95 Headhunter
XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Black Sun Soldier (14) - Z-95 Headhunter
XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Do you think the "Punishing One" title is off-topic here?

I would imagine most people hunk Dengaroo needs the title because of his double shot. You'd have to give up a Z but it may be worth it. Dengaroo will survive longer than the Z so those 12 points would stay on the table more.

Did not even catch that he doesn't have the title. That would probably be a good change to make, though it starts to get Dengar really fat where I find that he prefers to be a bit slimmer. Up to OP though.

That is the reason I shied away from using the title on this build would it be worth beefing him up? Another option I was thinking was going with a Black Sun Ace instead thoughts?

I think, the issue is, Dengar is in a weird place. He's a great ship, but you can't really fly him alongside multiple small ships, usually, with his build being what you want. So you want one large base partner for him.

But then you have two, fat, large base ships that will die easily. So you want multiple small base ships to distract the enemy from Dengar. But then...

If you do put the title of Dengar, I don't think that the Y and Z-95 are going to cut it as his squadmates. If you can find a good small base ace, maybe, or a large base ace, but otherwise I'd leave the list as is. You'll miss the title, but there's nothing really to be done about that. He has the munitions to take care of that for him. Maybe trade R5 for a Scavenger crane? I dunno really.

Honestly, there isn't a lot of punch in that. The Z95s would be more annoying than dangerous, Dengar isn't going to be causing me too much hassle without the title on board, even with those Plasmas.
It really looks like you could have dropped Dengar all the way down to a Scout, and still have the same amount of value there. Dengar lives and breathes on that upgraded turret, and how he can abuse it in concert with his pilot ability. It's much more valuable than any amount of ordnance. The Z95s would be ok as blockers, but they'll get chewed up without doing any significant amount of work in this list, I'm afraid. The ion Y-wing I'm actually ok with. That control element can be super useful to someone like Dengar, especially if you can land it on a stressed ace.

This suggestion below may look like a complete rewrite of your list, but I'm running on the same principle as what I think you're going for here, and I've kept Dengar himself fairly light (as you've said you prefer. Yours is 45, this is 51). Give it a try:

Dengar - Attanni Mindlink, Punishing One title, Glitterstim, R4 Agromech
Palob Godalhi - Attanni Mindlink, Ion Cannon Turret, 4-LOM
Jakku Gunrunner - Spacetug Tractor Array, Pattern Analyser, Intel Agent

The premise here is that you have a kitted out Dengar that can survive a bad situation with Glitterstim, and can generate both target locks and focus tokens even when blocked through Mindlink. Palob not only rocks the ions, he outright steals tokens, which can then also be transferred with Mindlink, potentially giving Dengar a free evade token, and certainly a free focus. The Gunrunner is a glorious little blocker, which is what the Z95s would have been doing, but has the added benefit of being able to tractor beam your targets before combat, potentially leaving them in a bad position, but certainly boosting your attack efficiency from both Palob and Dengar thanks to the reduced agility. Intel agent allows you some extra ability to tractor a ship into a position where they'd hit a rock (or even off the board), or potentially line you up for a bump if you're out of arc for the tractor.

Options: This list clips in at 97 points, with a free crew slot on Dengar. There's several options I could recommend, such as K4 on Dengar to generate even more free modifiers.
A nice option could be Ketsu Onyo on Dengar. Ketsu crew allows you to stack those tractor tokens for the next turn, if you can keep the target in arc, so successive shots become easier. In concert with Palob's ion cannon, keeping a tractored ship in arc shouldn't be at all difficult.
Taking Ketsu would leave you with two points remaining, which is a nice bid if you wish, or you could stick into an EMP Device for the Quadjumper, for yet more shenanigans. Similarly, Black Market Slicer Tools for Palob wouldn't be a bad call for just a point, still leaving you with an initiative bid.
Another option, if you don't have the Quadjumper (you should though, they're fantastic fun), is simply sliding back in another Y-wing with ion. It would bring you back to 100 points, but no large ship likes the idea of being ioned every turn, so you could well end up with a tokenless target by the time Dengar fires. Indeed, ditching 4-LOM from Palob could even give you TLT on that Y-wing. All good options.

Like I said, I can see the spirit of the list you're going for. I think that might work a little better, though. Scum lists love having some shenanigans, and those kind of things are always fun to play, so I thought I'd inject a few. Have fun with it!

I've been playing with Dengar quite a bit recently, and here is my new favorite build for him.

Dengar — JumpMaster 5000 33
Lone Wolf 2
Recon Specialist 3
R4 Agromech 2
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 52

This still leaves 48 points to do what you wish. I like running two large-bases, so I add to it a heavily-upgraded Bossk. I think if you run with two smaller ships instead, Lone Wolf could be more beneficial because it will be easier to keep more maneuverable ships away from him. However, running with more ships means it's more likely another friendly ship will be close to him. Just thought I'd add my thoughts here.

Has anyone seen one with a guri at all?

I do like the shenanigans idea.

What type of Bossk did you end up putting together?

Here is the Dengar/Bossk list I like to run:

Dengar — JumpMaster 5000 33
Lone Wolf 2
Recon Specialist 3
R4 Agromech 2
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 52
Bossk — YV-666 35
Veteran Instincts 1
Homing Missiles 5
Inspiring Recruit 1
Zuckuss 1
K4 Security Droid 3
Dead Man's Switch 2
Guidance Chips 0

Ship Total: 48

Bossk flies in pretty quickly with green maneuvers to get the early target lock and get off the missile shot as quickly as possible, using Zuckuss to do as much damage. Inspiring Recruit helps get rid of the stress, and you'll want to do a lot of green maneuvers anyway to utilize K4. He usually dies before the end of the game, which is why I use Dead Man's Switch.

Dengar flies slowly in behind to stay away from Bossk to use Lone Wolf. With Recon Spec, he can always spend a focus token on offense to gain a target lock and save a focus for defense. After Bossk dies, Lone Wolf becomes even more powerful, and allows re-rolls on a lot of blanks.

Dengar is the only jumpmaster worth the 12 point title. 2 attacks at 3 dice each at range 2-3, 4-4 at range 1. Expertise is worth it on him too. Remove the munitions so that each attack is better as opposed to just the torpedo ones.

Here's one I made. I haven't been able to try it yet, though.

Guri (30), Virago (1), Lone Wolf (2), Sensor Jammer (4), Autothrusters (2) (39)

Dengar (33), Punishing One (12), Expertise (4), Hotshot Copilot (4), R5-P8 (3), Engine Upgrade (4) (60)

(99)

Hotshot Copilot synergizes with Sensor Jammer and with Dengar's ability, as does Expertise.

I've just made this one and it worked pretty well today:

Guri (Virago, Autothrusters, PtL, FCS, Plasma Torpedos, Black Market Slicer Tools)

Dengar (Punishing One, 4-Lom, Predator, Counter-Measures, R5-P8, Black Market Slicer Tools)

I like how Guri works with PtL, 'cause it can make great use of his 1-Green-Maneuvers to get exactly where he needs to be. And Dengar is always attacking 2 times and R5-P8 deals the finishing blow.

I would like to try your list, it sounds pretty cool. May I?

Of course! I'd love to hear how it goes.
