Imps got new toys

By GrimmyV, in X-Wing

So, since everyone was crying over Palpy FFG decided to spoil some nifty stuff for the Imps, like a sneaky little cheap turret ship (that can take the IG2000 title....weird) and a double missile upgrade that ONLY Imps can use. For now. Bomber gets another boost and Punisher might be worth it now.

So, enough crying over spilled emperors?

*sigh* No, because getting new stuff doesn't always discount the loss of something old. Now, the new toys are nice and have potential.

But no GUNBOAT, Grimmy. The Empire will always be sad until it gets it's five-winged furies.

Another TIE, yeah I know. But it's not fugly like the oppressor or Hunter or *shudder* raptor.

GUNBOAT with Unguided, tho, just imagine!

OMG, they still have options????!!!!

Please oh please, we need a Gunboat or Blastboat.

Well, given that we would have probably gotten the new stuff regardless of Palp getting nerfed(what with new stuff being pretty much inevitable and all), no.

That's like the mailman dropping my mail in the sewer, and expecting the next day's mail to make up for it.

They look overpriced, 17 points for the generic is a lot considering that you're near-mandated to get 4-8 points of upgrades.

Base cost with Lightweight + Unguided: 21 points. At 1 point more and 1 hitpoint less than a bomber with the same loadout the dial had better be good.

Base cost with Lightweight + TLT: 25. Again 1 point more than the traditional Y-wing, but with 3 hitpoints less and 2 agility more.

Base cost with Synched turret: 21. Pretty squishy even for a 21 point ship (What other 5 HP, 2 Agi, 21 point ships do we know that we know for a fact SUCK?). The turret abilities might make it a worthwhile generic investment though, the ability to fire 3 dice out of Arc will make it a lot harder for aces to run circles around them, which tends to be the issue with generics.

On the Aggressor or no, Synched turrets really strike me as the turret-to-go-for as an Ace deterrent in a generic heavy list.

I'm expected the dial to be more TAP and less Bomber (and nothing like the HWK). Perhaps similar to the Advanced but with more green?

I wouldn't call it new toys since the Rebels and Scum already had some of these toys for so long. More like Rebels and Scum now have to share, as Imperials finally steal all their stuff back.

I hope it doesn't have the TIE Advanced dial. I'd rather have a TIE Bomber dial than that weird thing.

I'm liking the potential but it all looks really similar to things we've seen before that havnt panned out or less useful versions of things that already exist.

Oh, and scum rebels have access to how many more ships than the empire now?

Rebels -18

Empire - 16

Scum - 15

Ya'll are just never satisfied, are you? You are aware that the Imperial faction is STILL better than the Rebel faction, right? And has been since Wave 8?

Guys. Guys. Guyyyyyyys!!! It's just a game! A lovely game at that, but still a game.

Besides, while Scum might be a bit favored at the moment, Imps and Rebs are pretty much on par imho.

This also means that there is hope for the Gunboat, considering the Aggressor was Legends material if I'm not mistaken.

I think the Aggressor marks the point where all the remaining TIE variants that haven't been added to the game are either worse-looking than the Gunboat or much, much, MUCH worse-looking than the Gunboat.

What I'm saying is I feel like I'm gone from "yeah, the Gunboat would be nice at some point" to "the next time they need to release an Imperial ship and don't have any low-hanging fruit from Rebels/a new film, the Gunboat is probably the best choice" .

They have been releasing TIEs that look worse than the Gunboat since Wave 7 with the TIE Punisher.
If the Gunboat has not been released yet, it's because they just plainly don't want to.

When, in a podcast, they asked Alex Davy when the gunboat would be released, he answered "Never say never!".
That is a clever way to say "Never" twice, without actually saying "never".

I wouldn't say that. I always found the opressor much better looking than the aggressor.

Um, facts? Cause Worlds ain't holding that up. There might be more wins for the Imps at lower levels, but never shutting Rebels out.

Not to mention, Rebels have all the tricks. Stress control, ion control, the best bombs, Regen, insane spike damage, and a few Aces who are more durable then most of the Imps.

Counterpoint: the Punisher is awesome-looking and I will fight you* in real life** if you say different.

* - I will politely disagree with you.

** - On the Internet.

What? Similar to things we have seen before? Like all the other imp ships with turrets and Unlimited Rockets?

We must have had so many i lost count!

Um, yes. In fact.

Last worlds Rebels had only 2/16 in top 16. Granted they both went to the semifinals and finals respectively. But that's because these 2 lists fed on imp aces, one of the 2 OP lists of the championship.

Rebels also were completely absent from the meta after J5K came out until Deadeye was nerfed to small only. Which made up a pretty long time during said period. since wave 8.

Imps were much less affected by U-Boats and could handle them unlike 95% of Rebel lists.

The meta is only just now switching back to a more balanced state for Rebels, where they have truly competitive lists.

So, two well constructed Rebel lists owned the Empire's good teams. Hmm. Sounds like they have a better tool box.

Which is why U-Boats were nerfed. That's on Scum, not Imps.

Yes, because they had the mauverability to deal with U-Boats and the U-Boats were suppressing what preyed on the Imp lists. Again, that's on Scum.

And finally, where do you think Rebel players were going? Stuff like x7 enticed some, but I'm betting most switched over to the faction most like the Rebels that was currently in a position of power, namely Scum.

The Empire has always been X-Wing's boogieman. Until Parattanni, all I heard was "you have to beat this Imperial list, or that one". And yet for all that, they never dominated like certain Scum lists and, despite having lessor numbers, Rebels still manage to nab top spots in upper level events.

Well spotted! There will have to be errata for that. Scum only perhaps.

Or does it have to have TIE in it?

All the TIE titles, x1, x7 etc etc have TIE Advanced, TIE Defender only. If this thing does come with a title, dare say it will say TIE Aggressor only. I am hoping that FFG thought more of its consumers and thought they wouldn't have to explain that bit.
