An argument in favor of the ISD-I model in Armada

So because Heroclix has been successful, we should see Romulan bird-of-prey commanded by He-Man because profit?

It's a Star Wars game first and foremost, people playing it should expect Star Wars. Guess what? Star Wars design for the factions is pretty cut and dry, Imps are large battleship grey triangles with swarms of solar panels for fighters. Rebels are more eclectic, but their largest capital ships typically follow a pickle theme with an alphabetical list of fighters.

That's Star Wars, that's what it's been since 1977.

You said that Rebels need a 3rd MC80 because one exists in canon. I never suggested that FFG pulls in non-Star Wars material, like your silly strawman suggests, I said that FFG doesn't need to make a model for evey single Star Wars ship that exists...

No, what you suggested is below.

This is a game. Game design and business considerations are more important than making sure you've released a model for every canon ship. Don't like it? Too bad. This idea that because a 3rd MC80 variant exists in canon somewhere that obliges FFG to release one is simply idiotic.

If there's room in the design space for another ISD, and FFG thinks they can make it different enougn to justify a $50 model, they'll make it. Simply releasing something which is similar to what already exists and whose selling point "new model" and "have to spend $50 to get new admiral" will piss off a lot of people.

What you are suggesting here is that FFG not release something and your reasoning is that its because the designs look similar. So, should I link you Sienar Fleet Systems entire line of TIEs here?

This is a Star Wars based game, if you don't like it, there are numerous other NON Star Wars fleet based games available for you to play. However, when you play a game based off an established universe, with established canon, and established technology, you should expect it follow those lines. This means that currently the ISD-I has yet to have a model released, same goes for the Tector class Star Destroyer, the Wingless Liberty Mon Calamari Cruiser and the Dornean gunship. All those ships I listed are Original Trilogy canon, leaving them out of a game based on capital ship battles is like leaving the B-Wing or TIE Bomber out of X-Wing.

I am intentionally leaving out the SSD Executor, its inclusion/exclusion in the game is a debate for a different thread.

Game design. Not the design of the physical model.

So per faction only ever release one carrier, one corvette, one destroyer, one bomber, one fighter, one interceptor, one.... because game design? This game is gonna run out of releases fast!

I wouldn't mind a ship friggin identical to the AFmkII that has the shape of a wingless liberty MC80. Why?

There's more to this game, (at least for me), then design space! More than welcome to your opinion though- I just can't wait to fill out my RotJ Endor fleet with the brahtok and wingless lib

Are you being intentionally dense?

Are you intentionally trying to sideline ships that are iconic to the genre?

That I agree with, and I think is the first of two major issues with the idea: the name. The other is the color scheme. I really don't like the sound of a sparkling white spaceship. . . sounds dull and ugly as a color.

But just think about how that sparkling white hull makes it easier to paint over and do your own design!

Its pre-assembled AND pre-primed!

Plus, I can't even paint the side of a building. . . I tried 'miniatures' painting before, but it always ended horribly.

What are you even talking about? I have already said that if FFG can find the design space to fit another Imperial then that's ok. You've responded with strawmen and an asinine complaint that because a 3rd kind of MC80 exists canon, FFG must make it in the game. You've made no attempt to address anything I've actually said. You're either dense or trolling, and I don't care which it is now. I award you no points and may God have mercy in your soul.

I guess if people want a new model that's fine but I don't think it's really worth dedicating a whole wave to.

Yes we have 2 mon cal cruisers but there are clearly significant differences, much more than the ISD variations.

I am am one of those who will be pissed if I have to buy a second ISD model to get some new critical upgrade. That kind of stupid crap is why I don't buy into XWMG. I refuse to buy a $70 epic ship to get a single important card (Palpatine) or the other expensive epic ship to buy a different important card (C-3P0) or the new epic ship (C-ROC) to buy whatever the new meta-defining cash grab card they released in it

Encourage FFG to release a cardboard/card pack and let people buy a second ISD if they need a second model. I don't inherently object to an expansion to flesh out the ISDs with new titles and an Admiral Thrawn.

I also don't get the whole "ISDs should have a fleet command slot" argument. The point of the ISD was that it was all you have to send. It isn't intended to lead a massive fleet. Any target tough enough to need multiple ISDs got an SSD thrown at it.

If if you are so pissy about the model, go buy and ISD1 model, paint it, and mount it on a stand. Nobody is going to tell you no. Seriously, nobody.

EDIt: So I can say one positive thing. The copies of XI7, Leading Shots, TRCs that are in the quarterly kits are a huge win for me because it is exactly the opposite of the XWMG epic ships. It made it so I don't need to buy a 3rd or 4th MC30 for one card.

I honestly doubt a card only pack is ever going to happen. Maybe in a campaign, but even then it's unlikely other than new cards for squadrons.

Look at X-Wing. They've been asking for card only packs for years, but FFG hasn't listened. Why? Because they know that they can sell more product by rereleasing models with different paint jobs, and a set of new cards.

Beg FFG all you want, but don't hold your breath that they will listen.

But hey, if there is an ISD aces and you don't like the model you can always sell it. Nobody is going to tell you no. Seriously nobody.

Better thance that to "Nobody Important".

Because I know people who have tried already with my Converted model that they assumed was Non-FFG from the start.

Fair. :)

I doubt a card pack is in the works. New titles in a campaign box seem most likely.

I would not object to a refit title that shows up in a campaign box Something like:

Tector Refit.

Reduce the Squadron value of this ship to 0. Increase the hull value by 1.

XX points.

That would give a new Edge to some ships.
