Captain Jonus- King of TLT Aggression!

By Johen Dood, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Captain Jonus, the Howlrunner of Aggressor Turret Swarm!

x3 PS2 TIE Aggressor +TLT +LWF - 75 points

Captain Jonus + TIE Shuttle + Rebel Captive - 25 points

Total: 100 points

The Aggressors get to reroll 2 attack dice on ALL the TLT attacks. No need for Target locks for rerolls- and applies to both attacks (confirmed in FAQ 3.1.1). Rebel Captive to dissuade shots onto Jonus.

Seems pretty nasty getting to re-roll all those TLT dice. Like REALLY nasty.

This sort of thing has been done before using HWK + TLT + recon specialist. Granted, Jonus provides slightly better modification and LWF provides slightly more durability, but I don't think its going to be amazing. Kind of boring to fly and boring to fly against, but it will certainly be effective against some builds.

I don't think rebel captive is the right call on Jonus, however. You want the opponent to shoot at him. Otherwise he's killing your firepower. Its better to lose Jonus first than to lose a TLT first, imho. Its not like the TLTs suddenly become useless without Jonus, afterall.

Pretty tasty but wouldn't it just be better to drop Jonus and get a 4th aggressor for the same cost?

I'm not sure on the math. Lets find out! *Heads over to X-Wing Dice Probability Calculator*

Against a 1 AGI ship:

Your average calculated damage of each TLT with Jonus against an AGI 1 target is 1.82 or roughly a 83% chance to do 2 damage. With 3 Aggressors: 5.46 average damage.

Your average calculated damage of each TLT without Jonus against an AGI 1 target is 1.47 or roughly a 54% chance to do 2 damage. With 4 Aggressors: 5.88 average damage.

Against a 2 AGI ship:

Your average calculated damage of each TLT with Jonus against an AGI 2 target is 1.63 or roughly a 67% chance to do 2 damage. With 3 Aggressors: 4.89 average damage.

Your average calculated damage of each TLT without Jonus against an AGI 2 target is 1.19 or roughly a 35% chance to do 2 damage. With 4 Aggressors: 4.76 average damage.

Against a 3 AGI ship:

Your average calculated damage of each TLT with Jonus against an AGI 2 target is 1.4 or roughly a 49% chance to do 2 damage. With 3 Aggressors: 4.2 average damage.

Your average calculated damage of each TLT without Jonus against an AGI 3 target is .93 or roughly a 22% chance to do 2 damage. With 4 Aggressors: 3.72 average damage.

---

These stats aren't taking into account any participation from Jonus- not him shooting with his primary, and not any thought of other upgrades, crew, or whatnot you might do with him. Plus he has 1HP more than an aggressor.

I didn't calculate 0 AGI because it's pretty straightforward- 4 Aggressors does 8 damage to 0 AGI, and 3 Aggressors does 6 damage.

I'd say the edge goes to Jonus +3 TIE Aggressors. 4 TIE Aggressors are only better against 0 AGI ships. Jonus only gets better as AGI of the target goes up. Plus I think you can safely spend focus tokens on defense, without needing to save them on offense.

Pretty neat!

Trade Rebel Captive for Tactician. It'll be sure to draw the hate, and you'll be free to fly your TLTs for longer, while also providing some measure of control to the list.

Either Tactician, or Operations Specialist, for even more stupid redundancy :P

Yeah Tactician might work. Problem with Ops Specialist is that both attacks from TLT have to miss for him to activate, and with Jonus on board, that's REALLY unlikely.

Another option for crew on Jonus is Mara Jade: to dissuade anyone from closing to range 1- like Carnor and such. This might be a good approach to keep people out of the TLT donut.

elusiveness + mk.II lets you make enemy reroll crits. Or else can go crackshot+LWF for a little early punch and some defense. Tactician + crackshot isnt too bad either.

EDIT: Just thought of Systems Officer + mk.ii. Lets TLTs get target locks, setting up the Jonus-less future rounds.

That's a good idea! I like that! Also, once you've gotten a couple TLs up, you can use Jonus to block or stall the enemy- allowing your Aggressors more time.

Tie shuttle prevents hux

There is always a chance of 0% for 2 damage with a TLT. You need to get this one hit and i think your target lock/focus actions will bring you there against most ships
