Painting my Armada Ships

By Crucium Giger, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Just a little update for today as I painted a test scheme on an X Wing fighter this morning. I'll be varying the markings on these so I'll end up with four different 'wings' of squadrons from the two starter sets I have.

To paint these I gave them a watered down base coat of Off White that was followed by a watered down black wash before dry brushing them in Off White. I then picked out the engines in Gun Metal, the droid in Silver then topped with either Mechrite Red, Mordian Blue or Knarlac Green (I need to go over these in a brighter colours as they not really showing at the moment), the intakes in Matt Black, the exhausts in Mechrite Red then a dab of Fiery Orange and then finally the markings in Blood red and the old foundation Yellow.

As I've never painted anything at this scale I'm not sure how detailed I should go (without driving myself insane) so any feedback would be very much appreciated, I've scaled the photo so when you click on it it should roughly be at it's actual size.

A starter sets worth of X Wings now completed so on to the next batch.

I've varied the markings on these just to keep them a little different and will attempt to do so on the second batch as well.

I typically do each stand matching. But I change colors and patterns from stand to stand.

Nice work!

Cheers,

I was considering painting some with a blue and yellow scheme to mix things up a bit in the next batch.

Just finished up my second batch of X Wings this morning, good job too as I was starting to run out of ideas for the markings.

Next batch of TIE figthers done this morning.

The yellow pops at table level, which is tough to do on fighters this small. I like them!

Keeping it simple for the mass fighters is usually good. The single peg freighter size is where you really have a bit more space to play around with some fun designs.

I'm really looking forward to working on the Ghost out of all of them, Rebels has just been so good and was one of the reasons I started playing this in the first place.

I painted up my first expansion squadrons over the weekend after finishing up another batch of TIE fighters (I have more than I'll ever need in game but they do look good on the shelf).

I've now finished off the first Rebel squadron expansion, really enjoyed painting these up. To add a bit of variety to the X Wings I painted these up as Blue Squadron from Rogue One.

Just finished off the Ewings and Z95s form the second squadron expansion.

This morning I finished off the last of the miniatures from the Rebel squadron expansions, it has nice to be able to paint up what are in effect character models for this game and put a bit more time into them.

I've started work on the first Imperial squadron expansion, these are so much quicker to work on than the Rebels due to the lack of marking etc though doing all those black panels does drive me slightly nuts.

That sand and taupe lancer, loving it.

Cheers Darthain

I've just finished of the TIE Interceptors and Bombers so that complete the first Imperial squadron expansion, now on to the second one!

(Sorry the photos are a tad too dark, the weather has taken a turn for the worse and it's not the best for taking photos)

I managed to really crack on this weekend and finished of the Rogues and Villains expansion, I really enjoyed painting these even though some of the paint scheme were quite fiddly to get right.

Cheers and indeed I have! I was doing some minor re-painted of a Corvette and Nebulon tonight (pics tomorrow).

Another Corvette and Nebulon B have received a minor colour changed so that I don't have any identical ships.

Do you paint Imperial ships, cos I'd really like to see some on your style

and REALLY like your stuff

Cheers Visovics, I'm actaull yquite happy with the Imperial ship paint jobs so I'm not looking to do too much with them (though the Interdictor will be getting a small touch of paint).

Last night I finished of the last bit of brush work for Star Wars Armada (at least for now). The Interdicter is a great looking ship but the art always shows red lighting down the central spine which gives it a sinister look but is missing from the model so a quick 15 minute job and this was corrected. A quick black wash down the central spine to darken it off and the a couple of shades of red later and it looks much better.
