Introduction of Zann Consortium.

Get ready for cloaking capital ships, point defense lasers killing your black dice, and self-destruct. Not to mention mass drivers that ignore shields, the ability to ignore debris, and the odd corruption ability that messes with your opponents fleet. Still wouldn't be as OP as they were in EaW.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has FFG published anything to do with the Zann Consortium in their RPG books? It does seem like in X-Wing they make room in the Scum faction for Black Sun things, Mandalorian things, and Hutt things, lumping them all together.

While there is a great distaste for 'third faction' stuff in Armada (just as there was in X-Wing), including all-caps negations, FFG eventually voted with their pocketbooks. I can see an incentive for them to do so in Armada as well, regardless of the arguments of the nay-sayers (or "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"-sayers).

Someone has been painting scum capital ships on facebook....and by god they look amazing.

Assault Gunboats. Pops Y-Wing squadron.

...a guy can dream, right?

I have no problem with a third faction scum or otherwise my post was only in response to the Zhan consortium.

I'd be fine with getting a scum that focuses on black sun and brings new bounty hunter cards to existing squads and posibly even some (stolen) ships

Yes vote to a refresh for several ships. Could even just be a campaign release with new titles for wave 1 And 2 ships.

My guess for the next wave:

* A new Squadron pack that includes the U-Wing and Imperial Cargo Shuttle. Possibly also including ARC-170's for rebels and V Wings for Imperials.

* MC-75, large base - Better fighter control than Home One, but less shields and less dice

* Venator class Star Destroyer, medium base - Similar stats to the Victory but with strong side attacks and a weak front

mc40 and venator is a carrier

In fairness, there wasn't huge resistance to a third faction, so much as the initial execution. Many didn't like the idea of Mandolorians being lumped in with criminal cartels, believing they should almost be a force of their own. I think it was more of a branding issue, than anything. Scum & Villainy is a quotable tie-in, so I guess marketing thought people would like it. In reality, if they'd named it something like, I don't know, "Soldiers of Fortune" or "Mercenaries", they'd probably have seen less push-back. Some still don't like the idea of Fenn Rau flying alongside some of the big-name bounty hunters/pirates.

In terms of gameplay, the execution initially lacked some forethought in that it borrowed heavily from other factions to kickstart the ship collection, but then backed that up with lacklustre Scum only ships (StarViper, Scyk, Khiraxz). The Scum Y-wings and IG-2000 were the only ones making waves for a long time, until the YV666 arrived, and people very much accepted the faction thereafter (until the arrival of the Jumpmaster, upon which the community lost their minds again).

I don't see that as being as likely in Armada, if for nothing else than the sheer industrial scale of the larger ships being something it would be considered incredibly difficult to achieve by private means. It would also be somewhat difficult to set them apart at this stage, in terms of character, without repeating some of the early X-wing mistakes and "borrowing" ships from other factions to prop up the fleets until more waves arrive. Unless they had something truly unique going for them, like an emphasis on small base ships with few upgrades, heavily squadron based, maybe even fire ships or similar "we both take massive damage" mechanics, but X-wing has almost certainly shown FFG that such a shift in faction design warps the overall game in a way that becomes very difficult to balance.

In terms of a prediction, I think it's a reasonably safe bet that it'll be the medium/large ships featured in Rogue One, since we already have the Hammerhead. Two ship wave, no squadrons (please god, no more squadrons...). I mean, they have to get Raddus into the game somehow, right? And Krennick, perhaps? I would not at all mind seeing more control options coming. I love the Interdictor, Konstantine, and Phylons, but they're all so very niche that it's tremendously hard to justify any of them in a heavy squadron meta. Interdictor just about makes it, but Konstantine isn't even at the races, and Phylons are usually competing for an important slot. Control elements seem very Imperial in terms of tactics and doctrine. It's a shame they can't be leveraged more.

I'd be very surprised if we get more squadrons before TLJ releases. Conversely, I'd be equally suprised if we don't thereafter.

I foresee the MC-75 as for the empire I can think of a few options for the empire, but what I really want is an 'ace' pack with an alternate ISD chimera with Thrawn as a commander which I believe he is coming putting Thrawn in any expansion would be like FFG printing money, so you know he is coming. So I'll say we will have 2 large ships the mc-75 and an ISD alternate mold with new titles, and 2 new types of ISDs Thrawn included.

I bet Thrawn will be on nothing less then a Large base ship. Thrawn, unless his ability is absolutely garbage which is highly unlikely, will sell whatever he's attached to like hotcakes. To me he sounds like the biggest reason for FLG to do an ISD-I model even if it shares stats with the current ISD.

It would be hysterical, and the ultimate troll, if armada got the gunboat and x-wing didn't.

So what I'm hearing is that's the card @JJs Juggernaut has been working on?

the mc75 should come with an offensive retrofit upgrade for large ships only that lets them carry small ships

what about a card that lets you add 2 dice if you are attacking a ship with lower speed than you

As much as I'd love that, I think that'd be a bit imbalanced. Arqs and 'vettes would be all over it, not to mention Raiders. Even if you made it large ship or medium/large ship only, it'd effectively kill the VSD off, since I've had bowel movements move faster than that thing. A team or officer that allowed you to perhaps get a reroll on a ship moving slower than you would be decent. Perhaps one that even allowed you to simply treat the ship as if it was doing 1 speed less during the attack; that would be a boost to Phylons and the 'dictor, as those dropping them to speed 1 would nullify their defense for that ships attack. Outside of speed 1, it does nothing for you, so it's a nice cheap upgrade option that suits as a deterrent against choosing speed 1 as much as anything else (hi Hammerheads!).

Unlike X-wing, Armada hasn't had to tap into the clone wars. Heck they haven't even tapped into the Sequel Trilogy.

But don't worry. Armada Waves tend to come once every year so no squadrons for 2017;)

Armada gets more than one wave per year. Your math is way off.

Let's quietly hope for no more squadrons; no more flotillas. But maybe something, anything that makes Capital ships be able to break flotillas with relative ease....yeah, I don't want to play X-Wing with three tiny ships on a stalk rather than one large one. Fighters and small bombers are in that unbalanced game; this is the beautiful full-space combat game. Can we play with fleets again?

I wouldn't mind flotillas if they came at them from another angle. For example, those Rebel bomber thingies in the trailer are sizing up to be about similar to the Gozer. An aggressive flotilla, with 0 squadron wouldn't be bad. Basically, using the concept but turning it on it's head. Not a support class, but a super-heavy bomber class. Maybe even swap the Evade for a Contain.

I'm all for more small/medium ships too. ISDs and Picks are great, but the more big ol' ships I can get on the board, the happier I am.

Honestly, I wouldn't cry about combat-centric flotillas with a bunch of anti-squadron upgrades.

Also, after seeing the trailer for TLJ, I really want blockade ships with specialized mission cards in their packs.

that's only because I didn't carry the (wave) Thour in the equation.:P

Or perhaps the Broha'tok Gunship as a combat flotilla that some of us have been rooting for? Proud member of the Broha'tok Fan Club :)
