The best way to ensure they come out is for the core set to have great sales, and to promote interest in the game as a whole.

Me too, I order two base sets, if I like those and playing with them, I'll be picking up the xpacs. The only ones I'm dubious about are the characters, with only 2 models, only one of which can be played at a time, I'm more than a little concerned about the 25 dollar price tag. I see that they're coming with terrain and more cards than most xpacs but I wonder if that's really enough (also lord Hawthorn isn't as compelling to me as say Silhouette, or Andira Runehand) (and What's his Face the Necromancer isn't as compelling as Zarihell or Varikas)

I like that What's his face(Ankaur Maro) can make new trays of reanimates...thats compelling enough for a one time $25 drop for his set...Also I am really interested to see what his list building skill will be.

I like the idea of his powers, I just don't know about that price tag... we'll see

Meh its a one time price yeah it is two models but they are far more dynamic then the typical rank and file troop and you get 2 hero bases with them, the terrain, objective/scenario deployment, two dials, and all the cards. it is just as many components and materials as you find in a cav box...

with far far less models. Like I said, I'll have to see about how much the game is enriched by having him. Maybe I can justify it to myself as a game expansion, and not just one hero model in two poses.
