Using Feedback Array while cloaked

By LordBlades, in X-Wing Rules Questions

With the existance of Vizago, you can now equip a Hwk with an Illicit Cloaking Deivce, cloak, then swap it for a Feedback Array and bug zap people while remaining cloaked (until they FAQ this part anyway, if the ever do).

The question is, can you use Feedback Array when cloaked?

I incline to say yes, because being cloaked uses the exact same phrasing as Blinded Pilot ('you cannot perform attacks') as opposed to Weapon Disabled or overlapping an asteroid, which are clarified (in the Blinded Pilot FAQ) as 'ship that has a weapons disabled token or is overlapping an asteroid does not get an opportunity to attack'. It seems to me there is a distinction between 'you can't attack' and 'you don't have an opportunity to attack'.

Actually there was an email in here the other day from Frank saying that you would remain cloaked even if you swapped out the Cloaking Device. Not sure if it will stand, but it would be fun either way.

But yea I don't see why it wouldn't work as you want it to. On that same note, you can toss on the new modification (Pulsed something something) to just remain cloaked, using feedback, and keep recovering that one shield.

That's the plan :) Palob with Attani Mindlink, Vizago, Cloak (swap for Feedback Array) and Pulsed Shield Generator.

Every round you feedback you regen 1 shield for free.

Being cloaked also uses the same phrasing as Weapons Disabled (" A ship with a weapons disabled token assigned to it cannot perform attacks.") and overlapping an asteroid ("While a ship is overlapping an asteroid, it cannot perform any attacks."). The only place it is described that those deny the "opportunity to attack" is in the Blinded Pilot FAQ entry while the actual description for both elements only say you cannot perform an attack.

It's possible that being cloaked does not deny you the opportunity to attack, allowing you to use Feedback Array and clear a Blinded Pilot critical while cloaked, though I can't find anything in the rules stating one way or the other.

There are no rules written about Feedbacking while cloaked. Thats why i sent a question to ffg and they answered me the other day:

"A ship can use Feedback Array while it is cloaked as you can use it while you have Blinded Pilot which explicitly says you cannot perform attacks. You cannot perform attacks while cloaked either.

Thanks for playing,
Frank Brooks"
I have to admit that was not the answer that i expected, since i think that, when you are cloaked, you have no attack to give up to, and the part of using Feedback Array instead of an attack is not fulfilled.
But i guess i was wrong, and i am going to play it as Frank says from now on.

I disagree with the ruling, but I'll probably still use that for our local group. On the plus side, this means a ship with Blinded Pilot can cloak to boost defense and still clear Blinded Pilot as he apparently still has an opportunity to attack.

yet you cant use it on a rock, which confers the same exact penalty of "cannot attack" - consistency! /facepalm

You broke the feedback array when you hit the rock and have to spend the turn fixing it
