Parattani on a Leash- Table Experience?

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

Looking for battle reports and/or impressions after flying Parattani following The Great Nerfing. Haven't run the squad myself post-nerf so I will refrain from conjecture.

I'm so unqualified to answer this. But I flew a Parattani variant for the first time yesterday (Ketsu/Old Teroch instead of Fenn/Asajj). I originally had Manaroo and switched her out to a contracted scout with BoShek (see BoShek thread for how that turned out).

My sense is that Manaroo would still be very powerful. She works just as well as a blocker, and there were plenty of opportunities where I could've passed off tokens because of that. Instead of keeping her back, you increase her survivability by denying your opponent shots through blocking. That's just my two cents.

Last week I flew Fenn, Palob and Manaroo and the effects were palpable and immediate - want to get those tokens, you're going to have to fly well!

i won two matches with the list but it wasn't as easy as before and Manaroo's influence wasn't as game-changing.

still a lot of fun, though :)

I think I might have some valuable input here.

I took parattani for the last flight this weekend to Daventry Regio. I flied it before with quite some successes, so I can say I'm a competent parattani pilot. I was usually using my manaroo aggressively - I like to use her as a bait and then run awa to safety sfter taking 2-3 points of damage on her. Keep in mind FAQ was NOT in use.

So in my 6 swiss games and 3 knockout-phase games, I was passing my tokens BEYOND range 1 for 75%, maybe 80% of the time. That's A LOT. Will I take it to the next large tournament? Most likely not.

So you weren't following the post-FAQ changes or flying with it in mind.

I was not. I was merely paying a lot of attention to "would I be still here if she would have R1 limitation on her ability"?

The answer is simple: nope, I would not, the list would be severely crippled.

I flew one post-FAQ practice against my son's 3 crackshot Glaives. I could pass a focus to a ship almost every turn. Now, the issue is that said ship wasn't always the one that needed it most. If anything, the x7 change hurt that matchup more than the Manaroo change, especially if you do use her as a brawler and blocker.

She still works as a brawler, either drawing fire from Fenn and Asajj, or hitting with 3 focused dice. Now, whether I'm taking her to Naboo is another question entirely. I've never run a list as often as Paratanni before (14 games not against my son, enough to get to the final in my regional :P ) and the lure of trying new things or variations is strong. A scout with toys is an interesting replacement, particularly if you don't think you'll trigger Manaroo often. Many other scum ship can sub in with interesting toys and some with points to spread around.

Well i flew parattani last weak on casual session with my friend just to check out how the changes will affect the list and after 2 games in witch i used her ability once each game i was convinced that she has to go and be replaced by some more useful pilot after third game when i changed my fly pattern and used her ability 3 times in the last game i was not so sure them home when i checked all other scum pilots for replacement i find out that for 27 points she is still the best kid on the block for this list you just have to fly her differently now. She need to sty in range of 1 from Asajj all the time and that requires more skillful flying than before.

Range 1 is still a pretty big target to hit. I would have preferred R1-2, but that's only because it wouldn't have changed anything for me ;)

I faced 3 paratannis at my regional, the 2 games I won, I was the only one keeping Manaroo dead center of the fighting. It certainly was a factor.

Paratanni never was an instant-win list, just a very, very good one. My son thought it was insta-win, so the day after the regional, I played against him with imperial jank (designed to hunt paratanni) and showed him how wrong he was. Then we swapped places and I nearly got offed by the jank myself. You have to fly it well to really make it sing, it just so happens that keeping Manaroo in the thick of it is now part of "fly it well."

Playing against Palp Defenders was more annoying tbh, and those are double nerfed now! It's so rewarding to block one of them and then stress the other with Asajj, closing off options :)

I would love to know what is in your Imperial Jank list.

I did a top 8 rematch with my buddy from Mustafar: Paratanni vs Whisper/Yorr/Countdown.

I definitely noticed the one fewer focus going to Fenn when he went lone wolf, but roo could still pass to asajj and block like a champ on top of her usual focus battery duties.

Fenn Rau one shotted Whisper, so that was nice.

Definitely still powerful, just a little weaker and harder to play. A good change.

This jank . I wish I could find the extra point to get lightweight frame on Sabacc (instead of primed thrusters on Backdraft). It was designed to all shoot before Asajj, with many, many dice. I've tried it with OL instead of the Glaive, freeing up points to boost the others, but OL doesn't have the sheer hitting power. This was pre-nerf for the Glaive, a VI Ryad may be more valuable these days.

Thanks for sharing! So do you fly fenn off solo as a flanker and just double focus when you need to? Or do you try to stick him close to manaroo?

How much effort do you put into keeping roo at r1? Like do you broll instead of other actions to get her into r1?
