The most "Punch you in the face" competitive Rebel list there is?

By gennataos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I won a three round league with this list

Miranda

-TLT

-Homing Missile

-extra Munitions

-Rey crew

-guidance Chips

Nora

-Rage

-Finn

-alliance overhaul

Ahsoka

-Captured Tie

-Veteran Instincts

-Sabine masterpiece

-inspiring Recruit.

2 five die attacks to start the combat. Generally you can pull it off twice before Nora falls and then Ahsoka just beefs up Miranda or starts contributing to the fight. Those first two shots though can brutalize most any list.

Seriously, much as I hate Miranda wish a fiery passion, using her without bombs and a TLT is like using OL with Juke and Comm. You CAN, but why WOULD you?

Building her down to 42 points though, that's the real challenge.

This 42 point Miranda is pretty solid.

@Khyros - This is the sort of thing I'm talking about when it comes to Kanan/Biggs (around 4:29, the round starts). It's not a dig on the guy on the stream who linked this in another thread, but there's no impressive flying or choice making going on here. He flew straight at the opponent and blew most of his ships up. He then flew down outside the of the rocks, turned the corner and (mostly) blew up Thane. That's at a top 8 game at a System Open. I would argue his opponent flying straight into the buzzsaw was a bad idea, but that's how most of my games go.

Like I said, I'm sure flying any list well at highly competitive events requires skill. But some are just easy to fly for anyone, and Kanan/Biggs is about as easy as Rebels get.

That is the ideal matchup for that Kanan/Biggs list though. Lower pilot skill means no fancy arc dodging. No token shenanigans to nerf Kanan. And it wants to fly in full formation. As you said though, his opponent flew right into it for whatever reason. It might be a top 8 match, but it was poorly executed. The Biggs/Rex/Roark/Thane player was stuck in a mind set of how to fly his list, in essentially a 2x2 brick into the opening engagement (which btw, he butchered 100% by having Rex in range of nasty Kanan, but not Biggs - totally ruining the entire purpose of the list). He allowed Kanan/Biggs to just slow roll as he wanted, giving him plenty of time to get some initial focuses on Rey. Oh, and he screwed up flying in formation too =).

Heck you can back up even further than that - the asteroids are spread out all over the place. Seeing as he's setting up first, setting up in a corner is going to result in K/B setting up in the other corner to benefit Rey. He should have setup over top of the rocks. Not only would it allow him to engage quicker (which is favorable for him), but it also telegraphs K/B movement, and with 4 ships, he can definitely clog up the lanes and take advantage of it. The fact that his opponent did pretty much nothing right shouldn't be a dig on the K/B player for having an easy win.

If I was playing as the BRRT player, I would have taken a chance with splitting up into probably 2 groups to start. I would lead Thane and Biggs down the middle, and flank with Rex and Roark. Zoom in with Biggs/Thane (well, as much zoom as they can do) to get the attention of those 3 attack ships - I'd even go as far as getting the block on one of them, though that'd be unlikely to happen in the first engagement. Roark Rex to PS12 to get the effect on Kanan, and then Kanan's left with the choice of shooting 3v3 (or even 3v4 if you're super awesome) at Rex with the TLT, or taking the 3+1v2 shot at Biggs. The next round you end up blocking Kanan, denying him his ability, so you can likely take out Biggs that round, and in exchange you probably lose your Biggs, but you can make him PS12 so he gets his shot anyways. And from there, you can just keep all of your list split up, coming at Kanan from numerous directions so he can't trigger Finn and his primary for lots of hurt on the same target two turns in a row. Rex is likely the #2 target, so you can play games with him to keep him alive as long as possible - pulling him out of the fight so Kanan has to choose between chasing him through the rocks or being in position and attacking with 1 less die... With Roark he can attack every other turn for the effect.

It's an uphill battle for sure - both lists are setup to joust, and they both played out the joust. You beat Kanan/Biggs by exploiting its lack of mobility, but his opponent didn't have the list, and didn't try to outflank him to make up for it.

Yeah, hah, although I didn't really mean to, this is me plucking out a perfect example to prove my point! ;)

I guess folks I play don't see it much, and don't know what to do about it. This game was a snapshot of my experiences while Kanan/Biggs...I just roll over people, but I don't feel satisfied by the outcome.

I definitely get this in any game I play. If you just roll over them due to your natural advantage it's not much fun. I can't just be happy about a win, it's got to be something where it had decision making in the game that proved better or wise. If I was never at risk due to good flying I'm happy, if I was never at risk due to my list superiority it's just meh.
