More about what to buy... Gift to one 10 years old Space Cadet

By Hexdot, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The eldest son or my best friend will celebrate his 10th birthday next month. Of course SW fan (and LOTR and Pokemon and...) and he owns a small fleet. He can play at home with his friends fielding his father's ships but only at home.

He owns two red and two blues Core sets, Tie Interceptor, TAP, Imp Aces, A wing, B wing and Rebel Aces. As you see no turret and doghfight capable ships.

Now it is time to improve to Iconic Large ships (old YT 1300 with extra pilots and upgrades provided with HotR and FS 31 plus extra pilots from Most Wanted). This both are purchased and waiting.

My plan is...

Owns 2 T 65, 2 T70, 2 A wing and 2 B wing. Add one Y wing abd one E wing

Owns 4 Tie, 4 Tie FO, 3 Interceptors and one TAP. Add Tie SF, Striker.

Suggestions? Budget 100-120$. Doghfighting ships (but he needs one Y to go ABXY...)

If he's seen Rogue one get the striker, he'll pick up adaptive ailerons quite quickly. the one thing i'm missing is a Y wing so i'd also plump for that one.

the E-wing is much more advanced as a ship as it isnt forgiving to fly. i keep trying to make non corran ones work but they are squishy and suffer to arc dodging.

If you've got Most Wanted then pick up a Hwk as well. they are fun.

Star Realms is a great card game that is affordable and fun to play.

I do like star realms. i had the app for months and played it daily!

Fan of the eight films. Plus Rebels, Clone Wars and XBox360 Lego Star Wars. My idea is to avoid ordnance carriers, minelayers... Fly fast and with skill, boy

You've got it pretty much covered already for Rebels & Imperials, except for the TIE Advanced.

Is there any interest in Scum & Villainy? In which case I'd suggest the Protectorate Starfighter, the M3-A Scyk Interceptor, and/or the Khiraxz & StarViper. These last two are fun to fly but not typically found in "competitive" lists.

My boy isn't ready for the miniatures yet, but we play on Ynot's Squad Benchmark, on the computer: https://ynot6517.github.io/bench/?#

That's easier than setting up little ships with fiddly bits that smaller hands would likely struggle with. That works for us, for now.

Only Rebellion plus Imperium. Too young to go all 3 factions. 2 Larges and 4 Small and lets rock.

Whatever you get, get one of these for him to wear while playing. You'll be his best friend for life at least until he's a teenager.

Children's TIE Pilot Costume

I want one, adult female XL

Imperial Veterans is probably the best value box I have purchased. It has Ryaad included which will give him a good Ace to use.

Thanks. Purchased yesterday. No Tie Bomber this year. Case closed.
