Would the following be viable?

As Asoka's ability triggers at the beginning of the combat phase in the same timing window as Ray you could theoretically use Squad leader action to give a free action to a friendly ship with a lower PS and then use the focus from Ray to give another free action to any friendly ship in range one. you would lose VI but gain action economy.

any thoughts?

Yes I think that what you are proposing will work fine, however having Asoka at PS7 means that you are far more likely to come across ships on your opponents squad that will be able to shot at her straight away which will compromise her usefulness and lifespan significantly if she spends all her tokens to give friendly ships free actions.

on top of that you need to stall the game a few turns to build up your Rey bank as well so that you don't run out of focus when you need it most

The rules sub-forum serves to provide answers to the legality of proposed combos, or to clarify how things work. It doesn't exist to critique someone choice or tactics.

At least, that's how most of us seem to handle it.

Ahsoka and Rey's abilities both trigger at the start of the Combat Phase. You should be able to stack those such that Rey can give Ahsoka a banked Focus Token and then Ahsoka can spend that token to give another nearby ship a Free Action.

I'm not sure there is any action "economy" in there as you still need to take some time banking Focus Token on Rey so that she could later give them back. If you weren't using your action anyway then I guess you'd get a positive return. If the ship you're giving the Free Actions to can make better use of them than Ahsoka can then I guess you're also seeing a positive return. I hesitate to use the word "economy" in here because ever use of Rey means a Focus token that wasn't used before; every use of Ahsoka means another ship getting an action in place of Ahsoka having a Token to use if needed, and finally Squad Leader is just passing an action from one ship to another. You are not creating NEW opportunities but just converting one opportunity into a different type.
