Tiny Aces

By Han Silo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been trying to come up with an Imperial list involving four of the 'pocket' aces that the Empire is so good at producing. Here is what I've got so far -

Dutchess - Adaptability, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight frame = 25pts

Omega Leader - Comm relay, Juke =26pts

Zeta Leader - Wired, Twin ion engine mk 2 = 22pts

Backdraft - Adaptability, Collision Detector, Special ops training = 27pts

Total = 100pts

That gives me four aces ranging from PS 7-9, all able to look after themselves and offer something different. It also gives the opponent the problem of deciding on target priority, with at least three late game beaters to deal with who do you go for first?

I would plan on moving the Ties up as a mini swarm with Omega Leader in the back, after the initial combat round Backdraft can blast past and start to use the rear arc while the FO's turn back in to use their awesome dial to dog fight the opposition. Meanwhile Dutchess moves up as a flanker.

What do you think? Anyone that you think would fit the squad better? Turr Phennir + Autothrusters maybe

Worth a shot :)

Omega Leader is a keeper, his low price point makes him a solid choice for this type of squad. I feel like Dutches or Pure Sabaac are also good choices for their price point; I like Sabaac better but it is up to you. Maybe drop Zeta to Wampa and give Dutchess a stronger EPT and Backdraft some toys or, alternatively sub in Draw Their Fire, FCS Quickdraw?

How many times have you ran it and how did it go?

I was trying to do something similar; I came up with this:

  • The Inquisitor: PtL, title, AT, PRockets
  • Omega Leader: Juke, Comm Relay
  • Pure Sabacc: VI, title, Lightweight Frame
  • Wampa

Played it twice in casual matches and it was really fun. The first two are really tough to deal with end game, the last two you don't really want to leave alive any longer than you have to so it forces some hard choices with target priority. Wampa also doubles as a decent blocker if there aren't any low Hull aces about for him to scare.

[Tiny Aces Mk.II]

100 points

PILOTS

“Duchess” (23)
TIE Striker (23), Trick Shot (0), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

“Pure Sabacc” (23)
TIE Striker (22), Veteran Instincts (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

“Omega Leader” (26)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

Carnor Jax (28)
TIE Interceptor (26), Adaptability (0), Autothrusters (2)

Here you get to bring 4 at PS 8 or better, Omega Leader and Carnor can mess with opposing tokens while Sabacc and Duchess dance around. It might be too fragile, but it seems fun and it would probably kill something before it could shoot.

I like Duchess with Lone Wolf, Adaptive Ailerons and Lightweight Frame. All the strikers lack dice modification. Lone Wolf makes Duchess a reliable flanker/closer.

Omega Leader is arguably the best thing in the game for less than 30 points. Add Stealth Device if you can afford it.

@Burius1981 makes a great suggestion with Wampa. The named TIEs don't get enough love.

The Inquisitor

  • PTL
  • TIE/v1
  • Autothrusters

"Duchess"

  • Lone Wolf
  • Ailerons
  • Lightweight Frame

"Omega Leader"

  • Juke
  • Lone Wolf

"Wampa"

  • Targeting Computer

I did something very similar recently with four PS9s. It was Omega Leader, Dutchess, Inquisitor, and Tomax Bren.

It did.....poorly.

It was fun to fly, arc dodging everywhere. I had Bren with a reusable Adrenaline rush. I had a blast, but at the end of the day, there just wasn't enough damage output. A bunch of two and three die attacks, but without all of the gel that glues a swarm together made for too little damage to match my opponent. They all fell one by one, and I think i was completely tabled.

OP looks fun!
