Looking for Ghost Biggs or 'Calen's Pride' Videos

By chervorlovesu, in X-Wing

Hi Team. I hope all is well. I was wondering if anyone has links to videos of people playing Ghost Biggs. I plan on trying this squad out, but I also would like to do some research on best practices.

Thanks!!

I'll keep my eyes out for any videos, but a quick search came up dry.

I have seen some variations locally with Kanan/Biggs/Rex which use the combination of Supressive Fire & the obstruction of the Ghost to try and make Biggs last even longer.

You can easily find some on Youtube doing a "x-wing kanan biggs" search.

I found Kanan power is very good to protect Biggs, with a recon specialiste you can save him from 2 attacks/turn. If you have tactical jammer, you can also add a green dice ;)

That's not Calen's Pride. Calen's Pride is:

I don't have any videos of it, but I can describe my experience with it since Calen whipped my ass with it.

The Ghost was set up in a corner. Calen had a somewhat unconventional approach, as he deployed the Ghost in the corner a few inches from the edge. at a 45-degree angle facing towards the edge of the map. Biggs was then set up in the far corner. I was confused by this at first, but then after he started moving I saw that it allowed Biggs to be perfectly sheltered by the Ghost.

The first couple of rounds were spent building focus tokens, and Biggs took his TL on the Ghost. This is important, as it allows Kanan to both immediately reroll Finn's blank result, but also gives you one reroll on every TLT shot.

Notably, he didn't keep Biggs out of the fight. He was still making attacks, and also shot past Kanan at one point for range control, forcing Kanan to bump Biggs instead of my intended blocker.

As for the Ghost: with Finn and the M9-G8 reroll, I've basically described it as having an unlicensed Death Star laser. You're rolling 5-6 dice with every primary attack, often with both rerolls from either M9 or your TL, and then following that up with very accurate TLT shots. My hapless Defender took a range one attack roll that ended up being five hits and a crit. It's probably the biggest blunt object in the game.

@PhantomFO TY for the input! I think the main goal of mine in seeking videos would be to see how Finn crew is used. Seems very points heavy, but the results prove it to be valuable.

I am going to hopefully get some games in this week with the list :) It looks nasty!

Since the Ghost lacks defensive rerolls, he's entirely offensive. But again as noted, he has M9-G8's Target Lock and your own FCS to let you reroll the blank result. M9 also helps if you have your TL from FCS, but want to shoot a different target.

The ghost is by far my favorite ship and almost all of my lists start with some version of it. I've been watching Calen run some version of the list for over a year now and have been inspired by it but can't bring myself to include Biggs.

So I've created a version of it with Jan Ors instead of Biggs. Only 2 practice games with it so far but boy is a 7 dice, fully modified, range 1 shot brutal. Twice Corran Horn got one-shotted. It's a pure offense, no defense version of the list (have to drop Kanan to Lothal for points) and it's a lot of fun!

Here's my match up at the Michigan Regionals of my Kanan/Biggs EU&stressbot variation. Note the commentary isn't 100% accurate on Tel's shield regeneration (towards the end of the game he had 1 hull 2 shields, not the full shields they kept saying). You can also see why I include EU in this game as there's at least 1 (if not 2) times where Tel would have blind spotted me without it (and once where she did because I screwed up with both the maneuver and then not bailing myself out with EU).

Hey guys! Calen here!

I haven't been to may events that have a stream or recording, as it not very common in my area. The only recording of my games of worth were from Tacoma last year and they were choppy and terrible sound. If your lucky you may find them. From other videos I've seen I fly it very differently other players, but I do have close to 200 games with Kanan/Biggs in some combination. If you see me on vassal I can give out some pointers. Same name as the forum + Ball.

The Finn Rey variation has won a regional in French one or two months ago, maybe you can find some a video of that.

Sadly I don't remember neither where nor when

Hey Calen, can you talk about your opening with this list? PhantomFO above mentions that you have a pretty unique first few moves, and I've definitely never seen something like that. Thanks!

Sure!

It used in tandem with obstacle placements, the goal is to protect the flanks of the ghost, protecting biggs, and giving optimal paths to engage/escape. Having the ghost start on an angle allows for a tighter opening move for the ships to maintain formation and with enough play to adjust during deployment if necessary. the ghost can hug the table edge to protect one flank while rocks can protect the other for the opening engagement. Also depending on how close you deploy near the edge you can adjust the opening speed if needed.

You're Bizzak? All this time and I didn't know!

Good fight there! That was a rough matchup for my Tel/Bossk.

(Also, Tel's a guy: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tel_Trevura )

I believe Sling Paint has a YouTube video of a Ghost/Biggs build. It has an odd title lik BPKW Finals. It's also relatively new.

You're right! But when I wrote that, the responses from Nymz on down weren't showing up on the Kindle. That I don't understand.

Haha, indeed. Though I would suppose that I wouldn't know you were MegaSilver if it wasn't for Phild0 telling me before our game.

So can we see a pic of opening setup, the description above makes it sound like Biggs is across the board and the ghost flies off the board turn 1???

@Sunitsa Hey -- I was writing a reply as you posted! Excellent job at the system open!! You did a really good job flying that list!

From 4:29:00 onwards you can see me playing Ghost/biggs in the top of Tatooine Open.

This clip shows it perfectly. Here's also a rough picture I made in vassal. Good job on your run in Tatooine Open to the final table!
