Once the FAQ is released, perhaps. I'm expecting that like Jamming Fields they're going to rule that Rieekan must be used and isn't optional. If they don't, then he abides by the optional upgrade rules like normal and you can choose not to use him and just let the ship die normally (avoiding the Precision Strike points pinata problem).
