Multiple Upgrade Cards

By Shrapnelsmile, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I'm perusing the expansion packs this early morning, and noticed they all come with faction-specific as well as neutral cards.

Must a player have multiple copies of one card for different units? For example, if If Mike wanted to add one of the same expansion upgrades to each of two different spearmen units, would he literally have to purchase two expansion boxes.?This would be in-line with power builds for Armada, etc.

Do you know if anything in the game has remedied this situation?

Thanks.

Typically that is how FFG goes at least in organized play. I would be surprised if in casual someone was thoroughly against proxies. However it is good to note that some cards do require exhausting (possibly the majority?) and I would think you would want an actual copy to be represented.

This is typical on FFG games, you can't share a card on two units on competitive organised games, casual games there use not to be any problems.

It has been confirmed by FFG staff (and it certainly seems that way from the spoiler card fans) that there will be no cross-faction upgrade packaging. That is, cards that are not faction specific will be packaged in all factions' boxes, so presumably a Waiqar command box will come with unique Waiqar cards and the same suite of faction-agnostic cards as the Daqan command pack. If you decide to only collect stuff for Waiqar, you won't be 'forced' into buyng Daqan unit boxes just to cannibalize the upgrade cards, which is a problem in all three of the FFG Star Wars miniature games.

That is an improvement compared to the past, but yes, you might still need several of an expansion in order to use several copies of an upgrade, at least as far as the written rules are concerned, though so far in X-Wing and Imperial AssaultI have never encountered a player/TO/event that would make a fuss about borrowing stuff or using stand-ins for awkwardly packaged upgrade cards.

Some upgrades shouldn't be hard to get second hand. I mean if I buy 4 reanimate boxes I highly doubt I'll need all 4 of the same cards.

Until that time you decide to run 4x 2x1 reanimates with Ardus Ix'Erebus giving them access to more upgrades...

That's cool, thanx for info everyone. I'm not concerned with tournie, this is a town dominated by other systems in the competitive arenas. So long as I'm playing with my crew or a friendly new face, we'll house rule.

One of every card used required; visible index card with matching name used for exhausting on the table. Easy enough.

Cheers.

I am super OCD about stuff, and I have every card for x wing I use in my squads. Even for myself though it's often easier to use one of the excellent squad builders online and print them out, especially if I am going to use multiple squads in an evening.

I have had zero problems with this outside of tournaments, where I wouldn't try it anyways. When cards need to be exhausted we put a critical hit token next to the entry on the printed roster to remind us.

This will be good to remember if they do end up following the xwing distribution model. I'm going to be building Waiqar exlusive so if I find a Daqan exclusive player we can trade our extra upgrades and both end up with the cards we need. Money saved on both sides.

Hmm... it's the neutral cards that concern me. I'll be playing this game mostly with all my stuff. Meaning people that come here and play aren't going to have either own stuff. Though we could just put the cards in a neutral space and mark what units have them, it just seems a little off. Not gonna make any assumptions until I have the boxes anyway.

You can make some proxies. Take some copies of the card, sleeve to make it strong and voilá it's all you need.

That is what I'll probably plan on doing. I'm not going to shell out a bunch of cash for upgrades.

Me neither, and as far as I have confidence with the owner of my nearest FLGS he will not request original copy of cards neither on tournaments.

Yup, definitely for home use I'll make a few proxy copies. Just feels kind of odd. It's kind of like how with Warhammer conquest (RIP) the core set didn't give you enough neutrals for 2 people to play with, and that was the only place you could get them. Proxies can be made, sure, but just unpleasant...

I'm feeling the same way, one of the worst thing this game can have is how upgrade cards are linked to specific expansion boxes.

This may be a question covered but, is there is the a limit to how many ugrades you can give to a unit if you have the points?

You're limited to the number of upgrades shown on your unit card for the size of unit you paid for.

(That's one upgrade per icon shown, of the types shown on the card.)
