Rebel list vs token stackers

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Since there seems to be so many token stacking ships out there, I was wondering if it is possible to build a counter.

No tokens for you (97)

Nera Dantels (35) - B-Wing
Deadeye (1), Fire Control System (2), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Guidance Chips (0)

Wes Janson (32) - X-Wing
Lightning Reflexes (1), R3-A2 (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

"Dutch" Vander (30) - Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), R2-D6 (1), Trick Shot (0)

Wes is the token stripper while Dutch and Nera stay at range with their turrets.

Wes can remove one token per turn which is nice but hardly devastating. I really like Nera but she can only pull of her torpedo trick twice per game. Dutch really isn't much better than a GSP in this list since it doesn't really need his free TL for anything. Maybe drop FCS from Nera (I normally find she works OK without it) and use the points to upgrade Dutch to Horton. Now your TLT gets a free reroll. I would probably replace Lightning Reflexes with VI to ensure Wes can token-strip before most enemy Aces.

It's not a bad list, I am just not convinced it can lay down enough damage. Even if you do token-strip a target, there is nothing to lay down some really heavy damage once you have done so.

How about something more like this?

60 Han Solo (Original) (46), VI (1), Hotshot Copilot (4), Gunner (5), Falcon (Evade) (1), EU (4)
39 Norra Wexley (29), R2-D2 (4), C-3PO (3), PTL (3), Alliance Overhaul (0)

Now Han can strip tokens from 2 targets per turn with his free reroll to ensure some damage gets pushed through. He shoots at PS11 and can arc-dodge too making him very dangerous. Norra can then slow roll to the token-stripped target and lay down some heavy hurt with her free extra hit. She can also mitigate a guaranteed 2 damage per turn.

If you want, you could drop Han down to PS10 with adaptability and use the extra point to either upgrade Gunner to Luke or buy Norra Vectored Thrusters.

That list is not going to fare very well against Defenders/Soontir/other token stackers.

the problem is thr lack of mobility more than anything else. You might even kill or double stress a token hog, but it's pretty easy to get in the bubble of the TLT or arcdodge Wes, soyour punch might not be sufficient to get anything done.
