Good Xbox One Games?

By TitaniumChopstick, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So, I've recently decided to refund my hotel fees for Hoth and instead put that money towards a new gaming console. A few of my buddies also have the Xbox One, so I've decided to get one of my own. What are some good games though? I already plan to pick up the latest FIFA, along with the ultimate edition of Star Wars Battlefront, as well as maybe Forza Horizon 3 because I love open world games. I hear the Assassin's Creed series is good, although I've yet to try any of them. I am slightly overwhelmed by the selection of games to buy, so please suggest some of your favorite games and help me narrow them down a bit. :)

dark souls 2&3

or for the same price as battlefront and its dlc, you could get a flight stick and all of the 90's x wing and tie fighter games ;)

Look, it really depends where your interests are. I was disgusted by a fellow (that calls himself a human being) who works ina games store AND said he didn't like Mass Effect. I loved Skyrim, ME, KOTOR, etc. That RPG genre is amazing. I just sold COD IW and COD:BO3 unfinished, yet enjoyed Titanfall 2. Am currently having a lot of fun with Doom.

I loved Battlefront when I first played it. The visuals, the sounds .. it was Star Wars! But after a few hours when every game feels the same. There's no life in it. I haven't touched it in months and probably won't.

Skyrim was another one I was possibly going to get. COD has never really been my thing, other than the First Black Ops on my old Playstation/Wii. The bit about Battlefront is interesting, as I would think new DLC would help to keep the game fresh? Too bad I can't really think of any other major Star Wars games from the last 5 years.

@kitandthevoices Dark Souls seems interesting as well, although I don't know much about those games. I'll have to watch some more gameplay!

the only bone games that I have and could recommend unconditionally are DOOM and the dark souls games. Battlefront is okay, but where I am the internet connections can make gameplay a bit touch and go for me, and there are still people who've been playing since launch that are way too good and can detract from the overall experience because there aren't bots in the online multiplayer and there isn't enough single player to make the game worth it for single player alone.

@TitaniumChopstick Really though, in terms of "I want to fly an X-Wing!" there is a much better choice for about the same price. (x wing has 78 story missions and 18 training missions, the subsequent games have about the same and x vs tie is multiplayer focussed - though you'd have to set up a server or play peer to peer because theres no support for it)

SW Battlefront wasn't meant to be a space combat game. It had components of it, but that wasn't it's main focus. Personally, I've been pretty satisfied with SW BF. I did play the original back on pc and hated it. Never played the 2nd, but that's the one everyone looks back on with rose colored glasses. I don't care about campaigns and such and always did pvp online. I was happy with the results. Not as good as Battlefield on the pc, but hey, few games are.

I think it depends on whether you like pvp, campaigns, or whatever.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTAL KOOOOOOOOOOOMBAT! XL

Just ordered my Xbox One! Should be here within 7 days! I am so excited, as I've not gotten a new console in almost 10 years... :P

Skyrim, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, For Honor, Halo Wars 2, Overwatch, Mass Effect Andromeda (3/21), Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition (4/7), Injustice 2 (5/16)...

Also, any USB 3.0 external harddrive works with the Xbone. I've got 4TB hooked up to mine.

I avoid regurgitated shooter titles like Battlefield or knockoff disgraces like Battlefront. Sorry chadwick, have to disagree with you every step of the way.

I recommend Warframe, it's a light sci-fi TPS that has gotten everything right that Destiny utterly failed at. Even the Micro transactions are bareable, but also avoidable if you actually don't sperg out on patience. Dark Souls 2 SotFS and DS3 are both good, hardcore action rpgs emphasizing gameplay over story. I highly recommend The Witcher 3 and both of its expansions. It is easily the best RPG to be made in the last couple of years and is much better than Dragon Age Inquisition. Skyrim remake and Fallout 4 are both enjoyable, I highly recommend it if you don't PC game and actually want a real experience using mods now.

Stardew Valley. Bit different in tone to, like, everything else that's been suggested but my wife and I have both fallen for it in a major way. It's so chilled out and such a relaxing experience it's quietly eaten two weekends in a row.

Actually, Elite: Dangerous scratches the same sort of itch for me - spending an hour or so running cargo missions or doing some light exploration is just ideal if I need to unwind. That might be partially down to having sunk so many hours into the original Elite when I was 10 or so, mind.

The only thing Dragon Age: Inquisition does that the Witcher 3 doesn't is the persistent world-state between the Dragon Age games. (Granted, it's via Dragon Age Keep as DA:I was the first of the series on current-gen consoles).

But then again, the Witcher series didn't really have the branching storylines that Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II had.

Basically, the two games breakdown as such:

Graphics : Witcher 3
Combat : This is actually a toss up. DA:I is more tactical, while Witcher 3 is more action. So take your pick.
Gameplay: Witcher 3
Writing: Tie. DA:I has much better world-building and lore, Witcher 3 has better dialogue.
Consequences of Actions: DA:I, hands down, no contest.
Characters: Witcher 3

So basically, Witcher 3 is the overall winner, but DA:I is still good.

Witcher 3 is your solid fantasy action-rpg.

DA:I is Mass Effect with swords.

also Life is Strange is pretty great, along with the Walking Dead games

I only have a pc but most games come out on all systems so:

Shadow of Mordor, the Batman games (don't know which one are one XBOX One), Bastion, Mark of the Ninja (if it is available for the One), Darksiders, the Metro games, Overwatch, XCOM 2, Thomas was alone, Lara Croft Temple of Osiris and Guardian of Light if it is avalaible for the One, Rocket League, the Lego games are also fun, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
If you like/know the Warhammer Fantasy Universe Warhammer Endtimes: Vermintide could be something for you, it's essentialy a Left for Dead in WHF and Mordheim. City of the Damned could then also be something for you.

Oh yeah, pick up Rocket League and enjoy the best football game there ever was. Seriously, FIFA could never dream of having ball handling be a player and not a character skill. Also the perfect game with friends and it has split screen. Not entirely sure if it is on XBone, though, I play it on PC which has cross platform with just PS3/4 I believe.

It's on the Bone, and yeah it's terrific.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! My wallet is really going to hate you, as a lot of these games sound really fun! Rocket League does look pretty good and I am really glad it has split screen because a lot go the games I've seen don't. I've also ordered Minecraft for when my niece and nephew come over to play, so between that and rocket league we should be alright (until I can teach them how to play FIFA). ;)

Yes Rocket League is really fun, though I'm not that good at it.

And here is the Honest Trailer for Rocket League.

It is probably the hardest game I have ever played. Luckily the playerbase is large enough that there are usually players at your level availiable, so you only get beat up once in a while. It is also still lots of fun without being any good at it :D

So i've just seen this , it seems Rocket League got a new mode today.

My Xbox is here now! :) Currently in the process of updating though unfortunately... Anybody know how long it generally takes to update for the first time?
