2 Phantoms, 1 Striker

By Angron55, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,

first time I am posting something up here, normally I enjoy the quite reading. But I wanted to know what people think about this idea:

"Whisper" 32

- VI (1), FCS (2), Adv Cloaking Dev (4), IA (1) -- 40

"Echo" 30

- VI (1), FCS (2), Adv Cloaking Dev (4) -- 37

"Countdown" 20

- Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0) -- 22

I know it is very fragile but I hope the mobility and flexibility will be good enough to deal some serious damage and I think I like flying it this way. Any feedback or recommendations would be very appreciated. :)

I tried playing Duchess and Echo in the same list. Their competing initiative needs proved problematic. Countdown is low enough PS to avoid the same problem, but I think you would be better off with one of the generics. Coundown's ability shuts down Adaptive Ailerons with stress. If you dropped down to Imperial Trainee, you get an excellent blocker and enough points left over to improve your Phantoms with crew.

Looks cool. I love Phantoms. Their main weakness is people with higher PS, so I would try to add Kylo crew as well (need to drop LWF) to try and drop annoying aces to PS0.

Enjoy

I love phantoms and i had been playing Whisper with some success for whole last year but now when chirenau with vi and kylo exist I finish (for a while) playing her competitively because you have autoloose against RAC?

But for casual playing enjoy flying the greatest imperial predators?

Great ideas and thoughts! Thank you.

@jmswood : I really always like your comments and opinions. What crew would you consider to be suitable? Dave Grant gave a good recommendation with Kylo against higher aces. I think the IA on Whisper is actually nice. To know where a ship goes and be able to adjust your decloaking according to it could be very decent.

@Imperial officer : I totally get you. I have seen it in our club just once till now, so let's hope there will be not too many fan boys of that^^

Intelligence Agent is the best 1-point option for Phantoms. Moving up from there: Agent Kallus, Rebel Captive and Gunner are all solid choices. I think Kylo has potential, but you need to be careful to not use his action on rounds when you'll need tokens.

I would consider giving Echo Lightweight Frame to help her survive those PS9 nasties out there.

If you give up ACD, you give up a key component of Echo's unpredictabilty, which is much better at keeping Echo alive than 1 green die you might not get to roll at all.

Yah, don't do Lightweight Frames on named Phantoms. You're almost always better off with ACD, or Stygium. Even on generic Phantoms, you'll likely get more mileage out of Stygium than you will out of Lightweight Frame.

Alright. Changed to the trainee and will try Kylo and IA. Kylo though on Whisper, since he can still get a focus and maybe has already a TL and a good position, so there would be space for an action.

"Whisper" 32

- VI (1), FCS (2), Adv Cloaking Dev (4), Kylo Ren (3) -- 42

"Echo" 30

- VI (1), FCS (2), Adv Cloaking Dev (4), IA (1) -- 38

Imperial Trainee 17

- Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0) -- 19

I think I will try that at a Q1 Kit tournament in our club and report here how it went. Thanks for your input :)

Edit: Maybe one more question: What obstacles would the ships favour more? Large asteroids? Or more space for decloaking, so smaller ones?

I pick small rocks with my Phantoms and spread them out as much as possible.

Well, that went pretty bad^^ I lost all 3 games I had and got a pitty bye in the end. 1st game was against a very interesting list: Stridan with PA, Hux, Systems Officer; Inquisitor with VI, Prockets, AT, Title and Omega Leader with Juke and Comms Relay. He stalled very good and the PS 10 was hard to get. I made a few mistakes and was ending up with Whisper on a rock when everything was pointing at him.

2nd game against a Stresshog Y-wing, K-wing and Poe on PS10 as well -.- . That was a nice game but I lost Whisper after a bump and couldn't get the points back. Regen Poe was not a target choice from the beginning.

3rd game against RAC and Ryad- That is the auto-loss when RAC has Vader on it. He had Ini and even one shot Echo in the first shooting when I had all my ships pointing at RAC in range 1 and Kylo assigned damaged cockpit... at least the Trainee got RAC at some point but couldn't out fly Ryad.

Learned a lot today and flew the Striker very well. There is a few ideas with Whisper around on page 1 in the forum, also with a Upsilon Shuttle like in the first list I played against... I think that is a better approach. :) Still enjoyed the games.

I am looking for a good way to use Phantoms. Phantoms, are sort of a glass hammer for me. If there is such a thing. I have hardly any experience in-game, but, I too find the Striker easy and fun to play. In my hands it generally does well.

Thanks for posting your list and results.

You'll get shredded by TLTs and bombs, but otherwise it's solid with the caveat that I'd really prefer Targetting Computer on Countdown - when I've run him in the past I've not struggled with his defences, but I have struggled a LOT with his damage.
