If you select a red maneuver, and then a tractor beam sends your ship on a debris, you get a stress token because of the debris clouds. What happens when you reveal your red maneuver ? (you are now stressed, but you were not stressed while assigning your red maneuver).

So the old rule for revealing an illegal maneuver was that your opponent got to choose any legal maneuver on your dial. However, cases like this made that punishment a bit too harsh as it was difficult to be certain when setting your dial whether the move would he legal by the time you revealed it. The new rule in the FAQ is that if a ship is stressed and reveals a red maneuver it now executes a white 2 straight instead. Specifically to address situations like this.

Do keep in mind however, this ruling ONLY applies to revealing a red maneuver while stressed. Any OTHER situation in which you reveal an illegal maneuver (say with a shaken pilot) your opponent does get to choose your move.
