Turret mounted weapon with single arc

By Rosco74, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello,

Anyone can explain me what's the point of turret mounted weapons that fire only in the forward firing arc? Check for exemple the Citadel Class light freighter in the EotE corebook or the Dynamic Class light freighter.

Another question, the Lambda shuttle has 2 twin laser cannons, each of them has Linked 1 and firing arc forward. Actually they are wing-tip mounted so I supposed only the pilot can fire them. Why we don't have a single weapon, wich has linked 3 ? I am sure those cannons are fired from the pilot seat, and simultaneously, so I am sure it's a single weapon.

The Lambda has a gunner seat, two separated guns can be shot independently, making 4 hits per turn easy, a linked 3 weapon requires 6 advantages in a single hit to generate 4 hits per turn. Just because something can be fired does not mean it has to.

Gunner Brains, co-pilots, astromechs and gunners all have access to weapons as well. I would not be surprised if engineering, navigation and coms station can access the weapon systems as well, as you cover this way all 5 weapon systems just fine.

BTW, there is a misprint with the Lambda and the Sentinel shuttle, just mentioning it, because those two ships are on the same page with a copy paste error in their statelines.

edit:

For those turrets: I would assume fluff and ventral or dorsal coverage in some cases. A lot of the stock weapons are based on the background and the other stats of those ships adjusted to become loosely balanced and will a niche or roll in some form at least.

Ok, I thought those lasers on the Lambda shuttle were fixed guns so the pilot had to line the ship with the target to get a shot, but if you consider those weapons as gimbaled weapons it works
