Disarming too effective in melee?

Dam maths.

I'm much better at math than I am at abiding by aspects of RAW that I don't agree with. :P

Good. But this means the problem from the OP arises again with Sum Djem. Because a Sum Djem user can make the disarmed weapon end up anywhere within short range--they can say "It lands at my feet." Then it is just one further maneuver to pick it up.

I'm totally fine with that. Heck, spend the extra maneuver and narrate that you pulled an Anakin, wrenching your opponent's weapon from his grasp and into your open hand.

Two points.

Generally a weapon lands in engaged unless one has spent extra advantage and I would expect to use those same rules against the PC's regularly. There was one duel I had where two characters literally swapped their light sabers without breaking the fight as we disarmed each other on consecutive turns..

A NPC should generally have backup weapons if they are an important combatant. An inquisitor with an array of "trophies", a thug who switches to poisoned gloves if disarmed, an experienced bounty hunter who literally is carrying an armoury of weapons e.c.t. So that be a viable option to follow up with.

There are in inverse ways to handle this however. Take the humble gene lock for example; it is an effective tool that denies an opponent the ability to wield his weapon against him and can be customised to suit taste "As you grip the handle of the weapon to deny him, a strong eletronic shock blasts your arm." "It explodes" e.c.t. Use this trick sparingly however, the players shouldn't always be punished for taking an efficient route. Often the Nemesis can have multiple weapons, with the main consquence to him being that he has to draw them.

E.g. My character Tobin Stryder was engaged in an intense battle with IG-88 with a gattling gun. He caught up to me in the belly of a wreaked ship while I was trying to buy time for the party and in the exchange got threat and a thrumph. I used the thrumph to steal his grenade launcher as despite it not being the weapon in his hands this ship was dangling over a cliff; the last thing I needed was him firing that thing off in a confined space! XD
