I'm assuming that they were less "corrective" and more "Imperial Glass" sort of thing. A bit odd, given that he's got a computer plugged into his brain, but it might be desirable for whatever reason to be able to remove one component, or to allow one computer to communicate with the other in an inviolate one-way connection.
