Now that immediately doesn't mean anything

By Moneyinvolved, in X-Wing

Attack with Heavy laser Cannon targeting a sensor jammered ship, roll all crits... do you wait until you part of the modify dice to change all the crits thus eliminating the sensor jammers ability?

immediately never meant anything over any other trigger word.

It still happens after you initially roll your dice since it specifically calls out "rolling dice" as the trigger, Immediately just happens to be the choice of wording to make the sentence flow.

No. You still have to change the HLC crit to hit before modify dice, because the FAQ says so.

Does the same kind of timing effect Mangler Cannon as well?

The trigger on mangler is "when attacking", which makes it happen during the modify dice step. The trigger on HLC is after rolling dice, which happens...after you roll

There are 3 modify stages, Well two for dice and one for results.

Immediately Modify (HLC)

Normal modification such as focus (modified first by opposite of roller than by roller)

Result modification (crack shot accuracy corrector)

Accuracy corrector is during the normal modify dice step

should be errata to compare results step. Wouldn't change a thing if it did.

AC cancels results and adds two hits which cannot be modified. Basically that ends the modify dice phase as far as the red dice go. This cancelation and adding hits can happen any time during the modify phase, up to and including the 'end' of that phase.

HLC changes all crits to hits before any dice modification happens. Thus sensor jammer can change one of those hits to a ln eye and a focus token can be spent to change it back to a bit (that die can't be rerolled tho). Mercenary copilot can even change that die that was a crit that was changed to an eye and the focused into a hit back to a crit, which is very stange.

this all probably should have been in the rules sub forum

Yep. It is now part of the trifecta:

Immediately. It does not mean what you think it means.

Literally. It does not mean what you think it means.

Inconceivable. It does not mean what you think it means.

I mean, literally, this is immediately inconceivable.

Except that vs Omega Leader, you can cancel your dice, but not add the hit results.

Timing on AC DOES matter. Means your opponent knows exactly how many evades they need. No risk of forgetting your opponent has AC then taking extra damage. Or maybe you roll 1c. If it was in the compare results step, you could wait and see if they'd evade the crit and decide if you'd rather have the crit effect instead of 2 hits (maybe you have ISYTDS) on the ship.

And regardless, the FAQ specifically says it's during the modify step

Ha! I didn't even know this topic was still going. I posted it more to poke fun at the ruling on immediately. I'm glad people are actually getting clarification out of it though.
