Scyk Article Bro

By WAC47, in X-Wing

So it has been a tough week for strictly Imperial players. Despite of these hits from whiner-contributed erratas and forbidden regenerations, I have no interest of playing dirty scum or geeky rebels. Haven´t played a game, will not start now.

But Palpatine´s errata was overkill still.

I keep coming back to Quinn. Sure, she has to take the weapons disabled token to recharge her missile/torpedo, but it's still a reliable way to get your points' worth.

Quinn-18

Heavy Scyk-2

Guidance Chips-0

20 base

That leaves you missile/torpedo and your EPT. Different options:

AM/PRockets: cheapest option at +4 (?). I do not like it because of the R1 necessity. Scyks are too fragile to take R1 shots back. Two focus tokens, for offensive and defensive use though.

Deadeye/Proton Torpedos: +5, but comes with free dice mod. Deadeye means you don't have to struggle with TLs against higher PS ships.

Deadeye/Concussion Missiles: as above but the die mod is blank to hit instead of eyeball to crit.

Deadeye/Homing Missiles: most expensive at +6, but you get to keep your focus token since Homing Missiles don't require you to spend the TL. Also has the bonus of ignoring the ubiquitous Evade token.

For any of those builds, swapping Deadeye for Mindlink is the same cost. It would require you to get TLs, but you can get both on the same turn. I think AM/Homing Missile is the most appealing. Since you don't have to spend the TL for Homing Missiles, a good enough rill with Focus and GC would let you keep the TL in place for future shots.

Mindlink + APTs for full greed mode :D

jk lol Quinn would die SO FAST if you did that.

That sounds strangely like a challenge... :D

Arc caster is a anti-swarm cannon. Period.

Yup. Even more reason to think FFG is about to drop swarm buffs of some kind. Maybe squad upgrades.

Or a TIE Swarm title. Which is about the only way they'd get one tbh is give them some kind of formation bonus perk - does jack squat on its own, gets awesome with fellow TIEs around.

Idk I kind of like the option. Keep her tucked in the back of your forces, wait until your opponent focuses in on a closer target, and then BAM! range 1, 5 die. Then runnnnn!

lol.

Manaroo, Ispiring Recruit...both at range 1. Mmm...

Genesis Red has one of the best abilities in the game, period. VI+Mangler+PRS. 28pts. Great PS9 pocket ace. Some matchups he may not be as great, but he gets x7 Defenders tokens. He gets a ton of focus vs Attanni and Kanan lists. PTL could be hilarious on him as well, just dont use PTL until the opponent just TLs so you dont get tokens, then he can PTL for TL and Focus and get a nice full mod shot on focus-less opponent.

Genesis will probably be the first pilot i run where i intentionally get the initiative bid. Cause if he goes before the PS9 stackers he's gonna be sad :(

Just had to post the obvious because I'm seeing a lot of hate on the Arc Caster and I feel like people are not understanding what its designed for. Yes many ships that can equip it will get (4) dice at range one anyways but the "must assign one damage to another ship at range 1" is key. Anti-Swarm Cannon. Period. lol And yes Im with you on squads becoming a thing again!

I just realized the Arc Caster might be Rebel and Scum only because of TIE/D + Ruthlessness. That thing would be a shotgun.

Yeah, 8 dice to a primary target and 3 damage to another ship at range 1 of it. That would be absolutely brutal.

I can't decide if a TIE/D with the Arc Caster would be balanced due to the risks involved, or if having two four dice attacks would be too much.

So compare:

Kavil (24)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Vectored Thrusters (2)

Total: 34

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

With

Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
Arc Caster Cannon (2)
TIE/D (0)

Total: 32

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

Granted: the Y-Wing has 8 health, vs the Defender's 6. And Kavil at PS9 is a heck of an arc dodger, while the PS1 Delta will have trouble with range control. However: Kavil's 4 dice at a time can only push 1 damage each. Whereas the Delta might actually take out a Y-Wing in a single round.

I'm not saying the Arc Caster on a TIE/D would be OP, but I'm glad FFG decided not to risk it.

Sunny Bounder is going to be fun to fly.

And the ship is beautiful, the camo pattern is exactly what I had in mind for one of my scyks (having already painted a camo G1A and Khiraxz).

A trick that could only be pulled at Range 1 and would require a bare minimum of 40pts to put on the table at PS6. A 40pt ship with it's only trick being at Range 1, and losing out on TIE/D shots on literally every round where you don't have a R1 target? I hardly think that would break the game, but the potential for that kind of damage might have made the TIE/D viable at a time where, if you arn't Vessery, it really isn't.

Would have been a nice way to soften the blow of the FAQ, as well.

I saw that and thought "I so want to paint one that way"

Then I remembered I don't know how to paint and suspect that I'd be no good at it. :(

Space is appearantly full of redwoods, palm trees and jungles. And deserts, lots of deserts. If Poe's X-wing had a different paint job it might have been better concealed.

You may be right, we have Inspiring Recruit in the game, so...

You're only going to be able to fire that IPM every other round though. The rounds that you are both ionized and large ship with a turret or some sort of extra arc will be shooting at you while you are unable to return fire(...)

You could have an accompanying Bananapirate with Ion Pulse missile and Scavenger Crane (and GC) for 17pts, Ka'ato for 20. Probably not competitive, but could be so fun to escort stupid large bases off the board.

And these are ships used by smugglers and as eskort for smugglers, so ground camouflage makes sense.

In the middle of the jungle? I don't think so.

That scheme is just nonsense. Cool! But nonsense.

Twice as many female pilots than male pilots for the Scyk now. Scyk confirmed for the most feminine space fighter.

Genesis Red looks like the real MVP though. He reminds me quite a bit of Omega Leader who has been my go to guy since he released.
