Doubtful. I could hang around as a drop in/spare.
Vassal Freshman Spring 2017 Tournament
Just had a look at the vassal module. Somebody put in a LOT of work to make that. Very impressive.
I've made modules before but I wouldn't have attempted this. Definitely a tech demo of what vassal is capable of.

@ransburger did the ground work (some of it based on the X-wing module).
Then I put in a few hundred hours.
Yeah I bet.. how have you found actually playing it? Extremely difficult to make something so complex with so many parts easy to use and not clunky.
The totally blank cards is a PITA. That a requirement from FFG?

Short: It's extremely fast and accurate. Once you learn the basic hotkeys AND use voice comms, you can play faster than on the table. True story.
(unfortunately many players - myself included - fuss too much over measurements, the curse of accuracy is what I call it)
Long (if you're into vassal module creation): The fact there is no command that lets you SELECT a piece - other than clicking it with the mouse - annoys me no end. It means that manipulating the maneuver tool requires too many clicks with the mouse AND the keyboard. You get used to it, but it's still annoying. I could work around it, but that would require many more commands from the user. Effectively the net gain is none at all.
Yeah you can't programatically select stuff. I remember last time wanting something equivalent to an 'on event' handler.. it does 'on click'

What I need is a command called Select or something, that lets me define a piece to be selected based on a set of criteria.
Sigh.
I couldn't find one when I looked. There is probably a roundabout way to do it. Everything about Vassal design is arse backwards.
Doing anything in it is a real pig. But once it works it's very good.
I'll be a backup then anyway unless some other intrepid Euro joins up.
With 30 players you'll get a back-out I'd assume.

There isn't such a function. Sadly. I know how to work around this limitation - but it just adds complexity, and the net gain is nil.
Submit you list by PM and I'll put you on the substitute list.
Lists are found here:

I've also included some key data on the lists. Will expand up that later.
I had posted the wrong list for @ryanabt
I've updated the fleet roster now. Pretty similar, but rocking Vader, not Jerry.

Many thanks to @BrobaFett for giving me a VASSAL workup this afternoon. In exchange, he has now seen the uncontained fury of Impetuous armed with FT and OE, with Agent Kallus aboard. Educational all around.

I took at look at the first 2 tutorials, but didn't see where the graphics pack would be installed. Just trying to make sure I haven't missed it.

Right click on the module before opening. Add extension.
Sweet, thanks!

It will also be in a later tutorial

Log on, File --> Preference --> Personal
Then just type whatever new username you'd like.
First off, I have to thank you for all the work you guys do in Vassal. Given the way the code framework is and needing different objects and the GUI (I used to program in Fortran 77), I totally appreciate what has been done.
Secondly, I appreciate how it does unite the community among other things.
Just finished my match with @Paindemic7708 ... 190 - 147 so I think that's a 6-5. It took us about 4.5 hrs to get our legs on Vassal.
First my list...
1) I wanted to keep things simple to get used to vassal (low upgrades... no brawlers where maneuvering is upmost importance).
2) In competitive play (e.g., outside my home), I've never used any large ships before and I think I've only have used Screed, Mothma and Ozzel. Kinda crazy, right?! Come to think of it... I think the only aces I've ever used are Rhymer and Nym!
Special shout out to @Paindemic7708 for being super chill/cool... goodness I was super sloppy in the first few rounds... since everything is an object and I need to zoom the table to see what tokens, etc are... and I wish I knew command for screenshot on my PC laptop but my Vassal windows kept ghosting (e.g., I would never have the full toolbar until I scrolled where "Set" or "Remove Tool" were AND I had 3 chat windows showing up (even though I only had one opened... had to minimize to maximize to see the chats and be able to type). It was super weird.
Not sure if I'd ever want to play in the Vassal World Cup (I'm just not confident that I can move the tokens cleanly) but playing a turn every few days with someone to practice is definitely a highlite of Vassal.
Thanks to @Ginkapo , @itzSteve for helping to mentor. JJ and DVeggie... and everyone else that said "hi."
Thoughts...
Pre-game: Yeah, it's a good idea to have a fleet in Warlords to see what your cards can do. I use Fab's and you need to scroll over.
Round 1: With X-Wing, I always got to hold my dial in the direction of my ship... so the left and right tools confused me. But right is "real right" and left is "real left." I need to remember the direction of yaw and CTRL or ALT to move things. Hotkeys are your friends.
Round 2-3: I should've moved "Little Guy" to block Admo from my ISD. Credit to Adam for fitting him in there... and RBD is so good on Adam's Admo.
Also, I moved Saber to shoot but was completely outta range on Turn 2. In real life, we know that Saber moves "5" so if it's totally in range, I measure "1" from an X-Wing and put him just outside and usually he can Snipe at Range 2. In Vassal, this is a lot harder to do... but am I making sense with this question? In real life, if the guy has plenty of move and says, Rhymer is gonna stay outside of blue. We measure and he puts outside of blue. I'm cool with that. (e.g., it's all about communicating INTENT... just in case something gets bumped).
Or in that case, I measure from the target and put Saber in Range 2 of them and then if he's engaged then he has to shoot at the engaged?
Round 5: Moving the ISD to get out of the front arc of the Liberty was the game-saver for me. 1 Hull left!
Vassal etiquette:
To save time, do peeps just shoot and then maneuver... since this is casual, I trust whatever my opponent is doing... then again, I was thinking an ISD had Squadron 6 with command and token... good catch, Adam. I remember watching the First Vassal World Cup with Clonisher and it seemed like things went fast!
Again, I love this community and am thankful to be a part of it.
May there be mercy on the soul of my next opponent cuz I stumble through a lot.
My thoughts after my first game on Vassal.
It's a pretty cool interface. Definitely more convenient than setting up a game, so I'll use it to practice playing against myself. I'm willing to play more, but since I can play Armada at least once a week normally, I don't see myself spending a lot of time playing on Vassal. I'll probably do more tournaments though since the time frame is like 2 weeks, which is enough of a recovery time, which leads into my second point.
It took 4 hours for my first game. It took about a half hour for use to figure out the hotkeys and we had Skype to talk, and it still took quite a long time. I took some time with the maneuver tool trying to move all my ships in concert so that took some time, but I can play the same fleet on the table in 2 hours. I'm sure the time will cut down with the more games I play.
We both had some problems with the maneuver tool. Sometimes the ship would over shoot the tool, and end up half way past the current speed, or it wouldn't complete a turn and go short. Is this a known problem? We tried to straighten the tool every time we brought it up to "reset" the tools memory, in case it was trying to replicate the previous ships maneuver. How can I guarantee the tool will work every time? This definitely took some time to figure out. We tried undo to retry it, but we would end up having to manually position the ship. Easily the most frustrating thing about the software.
Lastly, I zoomed in to check the range on a fighter and when I got really close, I had an error that said Vassal had used all the memory and it needed more. Then my turns took about 50% longer due to lag. Luckily it was round 5 by then and round 6 was just clean up, so it took maybe 20 minutes. Any idea what the problem was? It's a new laptop with 16GB of RAM, so I shouldn't have any issue with that. And the only thing I had open was Skype and Vassal. Maybe it was loading a **** ton of new pixels to account for how close I was and had to multiply by the entire board?
Anyway, cool system. I'm more excited to play my next game now that I know what I'm doing.

I'm sure GK will have an answer but I'm aware that there's an issue with using the man tool that if you hit the hotkeys to move the ship along the sections too quickly, then it can end up all out of position.
AFAIK, you should use the hotkeys but wait for each command to resolve before hitting the next one.
Not sure if that addresses your issue but that might help.
When using the man tool, remember that CTRL is left and ALT is right. Mix those and you get wonky results.
Also press the keys sequentially, with a tiny delay. You don't have to wait and see the move, just don't push them as fast as you can.
This will solve 99% of your issues. Maybe 100% :-)
Re. zooming this is a known bug. It's a limitation in vassal, not the module, so there is no fix.
Just don't zoom that far in. If you can't determine in or out, roll a die.

Oh, so that's why... I've been using CTRL all the time and had no idea why it just went mad every now and then. Thanks!
