New Ship Attachments/Mods

By Woobyluv, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I've searched all my FFG Star Wars books and can't find an upgrade for my ship to improve the sensor suite of my character's vessel. I'd at least like to be able to upgrade my sensor range from short to medium with the possibility of long with further mods. How many hard points do you think this should require?

What other upgrades that are not covered in the existing books do you guys think would be appropriate for a Star Wars game?

We've seen an NPC ship with an Attachment that improves Handling, but so far it has not appeared as a purchasable option.

We also don't currently have the ability to add a Backup Hyperdrive or to increase Encumbrance Capacity, Passengers, or Consumables.

Fingers crossed we'll see these in "Fully Operational".

There's an Upgraded Comms Array attachment in Age of Rebellion that increases the range of ship communications. It doesn't mention sensors, but the default is that comms range equals sensors range. My group was leaning towards saying that increasing one's range increases the other's (they use the same set of antennas, perhaps), just for simplicity. Even if your GM/group say they are different systems and need different upgrades, at least the Upgraded Comms Array gives you a decent basis for an Upgraded Sensors Array - just use the same stats.

I would not touch sensor range via mods. It seems one of those key features for the balance of ships via maximum range of weapons which can be mounted. I assume that not having any attachments which increase sensor range was intentionally, the designers seem to regard sensor range as something very important and valuable when balancing ships.

So "just use the same stats" is a rather bold statement as your sensor range effects your compatible abilities greatly, while your coms range ... well you can curse the target which keeps firing from beyond your sensor range at you, but you can't shoot back that way.

I don't think that they've purposefully avoided attachments that increase sensor range, because they've published ships with increased sensor ranges. The YT-2400 has a sensor range of Short, but the Nightflyer from Beyond the Rim has a sensor range of Medium; it is noted that the owner upgraded its sensor range. Hence, it is possible; they just haven't published stats yet for PCs to do it.
