Basic Rey/Poe build

By TTC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been out of X-Wing a while and am looking for a solid, simple 2-ship build. How is this for simple stuff?

STELE (REY AND POE)

100 points

PILOTS

Rey (62)
YT-1300 (45), Push the Limit (3), Homing Missiles (5), Finn (5), C-3PO (3), Smuggling Compartment (0), Inertial Dampeners (1)

Poe Dameron (PS9 Version) (38)
T-70 X-Wing (33), BB-8 (2), Push the Limit (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

Not bad by any means. If you have the U-Wing expansion, I would consider adding Expertise and Kansan Jarrus along with the new title on Rey.

I usually run

Rey (Kanan, Finn, Expertise, Smuggling Compartment and Burnout Slam)

This allows for Finn to add a blank and Rey to reroll and hope for maximum damage with the use of Expertise. Burnout Slam is their as a failsafe if Rey starts taking damge to regroup then re-engage. As for Poe their are many effective builds and the build depends on that objective.

Poe has many combinations: but Pattern Analzyer and R5-P9 if not using R2D2 are very competitive components. It depends on how you want to fly Poe; Regen Poe is great but so is Arc-dodging Poe is just as good.

Here's a simple Poe build:

Poe Dameron (VI, R2D2, Sensor Cluster, Autothrusters, and the Black One title)

If you wanted to use Pattern Analyzer and BB-8 this build may also be to your liking as well; Poe Dameron (PTL, BB-8, Autothrusters and Pattern Analyzer)

Thanks! Not sure what I'll go with, since I don't have a U-Wing or anything else new other than the new Falcon.

Homing Missile and Finn make 10 points that don't work together. If you're sticking with PtL, then I would trade the missile, Snuggling Compartment and Inertial Dampeners for an Engine Upgrade. That frees more points for Poe.

This is the Rey/Poe I run now. I was a huge fan of Expertise on Rey when it first came out. I still like it if I'm running my 3-ship mini swarm with her (self-bumping Rey into your own Bandit is great with Expertise), but don't find it as useful with a single wingman. I also think Inertial Dampeners on Rey is...basically stapled to her pilot card. The combo of VI and ID means that even the highest PS pilots have to consider where they'll end up before she moves. They're going to want to block her, but will be leary of doing so if it gives her an in-arc shot, especially at range 1. The sloop title, white 1-turn and ID in your back pocket makes it really hard for your opponent to lock Rey down.

From what I've seen you post, the only thing you'd be missing is R5-P9, and I think BB-8 in it's place is probably fine. I'm even considering doing that swap, because I'm fairly poor at getting Poe in out and of engagements to regen. I'd probably be better served by having BB-8 to avoid arcs in the first place.

Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Smuggling Compartment (0)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Push the Limit (3)
R5-P9 (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Total: 100

Is it possible to use the sloop title to turn around after a burn out slam?

Huh...that's a brilliant question which I've never considered. A SLAM specifically counts as a maneuver, so I don't see why you couldn't.

When would you want to do that, though? Disabling weapons on Rey seems like something you'd never want to do, which is why I've always taken ID over BS. It's interesting, though...you could really get out of jail AND set yourself up for the next turn.

I liked your comment because you said my question was brilliant. ☺️

But you're right I don't see how it wouldn't be legal. (Double negative).

Although I'm not sure it's that great of an option compared to ID. Or at least it's a less of a big surprise, but you could really put some distance between you and your opponent and set up for an in arc attack with Rey.

FAQ says "If an effect triggers "after performing an action" or "after executing a maneuver," these effects occur at the same time after a ship performs a SLAM action."

I don't know if that helps or applies to the title or not since it's a "may" and not a trigger, but thought I would make a specific rule reference.

Title is a "may" after executing a maneuver so it is legal.

The rules forum seems to agree also.
