Fleet officer + Recon Spec.

By Flyingbrick, in X-Wing Rules Questions

As the title suggests, are the 2 still viable as they read if paired on a single ship as with the new faq that has been released? Thanks all.

Fleet Officer and Recon Specialist don't synergize. Recon Specialist gives you an extra Focus Token when you perform a Focus action . Fleet Officer gives you access to a different action that also happens to assign Focus Tokens, but it's not a Focus Action.

If you have some way of performing both actions, you could wind up with three Focus Tokens, but Rec Spec doesn't help the Fleet Officer by itself.

Ok thanks, was hoping this would be a work around, but i do thank you for clearing this up for me.

I know. Look at it from another angle. The point of wanting RecSpec to work with Fleet Officer is to get more focus tokens. General Hux is a powered up Fleet Officer. One more focus, and almost guarnteed damage with Fanatical Devotion.

This is a gross exaggeration.

How so? If you get a focus result, spend forcus to change it to a hit. That hit can't be canceled. There are some conditions to meet first, but they aren't terrible. (Hence the almost guaranteed.) Even if Fantical Devotion doesn't trigger, Hux still put up to three focus tokens in play. That's a fair trade for 1 stress. I've flown Hux on Major Stridan; it's an awesome combination of support and firepower. I like Hux better than pre-nerf Palp.

details

1: You have to roll a focus result, and still have your token to spend on it.

2, and this one is crucial: they have to roll a number of evades at least equal to the number of results you rolled for it to matter. I've tested it a bunch and very rarely had it matter.

If you roll hit hit unblockable hit, and they roll evade evade, they block the other two hits and don't care that the third was unblockable. Indeed, if you roll hit crit unblockable hit and they roll evade evade, you've actually helped them.

If they're a token stacker, then they choose not to spend one of their tokens. You do some damage but unless that was the only shot coming at them, they keep the token for another shot.

The only time it would be really helpful would be against Soontir and there's so much else out there that counters him that it's just not funny.

On one ship . Which Hux still can't do.

Don't remind me. :(

Agreed.

The initial question was clearly answered; so I offered a single card as an alternative solution for getting more focus tokens in an Imperial list.

Fair enough. Plus Hux is only 2 points more than Fleet, 1 point less than Fleet + Recon.
