COUNTDOWN: Hull Upgrade or Stealth Device?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

I must know!

Here's my list, by the way:

TIE/SF Fighter: •"Quickdraw" (34)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)
Rage (1)
Electronic Baffle (1)
Primed Thrusters (1)

TIE Striker: •"Countdown" (23)
Stealth Device (3)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Upsilon-Class Shuttle: •Major Stridan (42)
•Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)
Fire-Control System (2)
Systems Officer (2)
Fleet Officer (3)
Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1)

Total: 99/100

Against two ship squads with big hitters, I'd say the hull. Against a swarm I'd take stealth.

Just 20 point countdown here and hope no TLTs

didnt even think about the Stealth Device idea. Higher odds of dodging attacks and if you didnt his ability makes it not hit anyway.

Though i think i'd still just keep him naked. TLTs or multiple ships able to hit him at once kinda cripple him.

Always take stealth on countdown. If stealth works once it breaks even, twice it's better.

You can never lose stealth off countdown.

Unlike lightweight frame, you get 4 green dice at range 3.

Countdown is also Gunner bait, so I would take LWF. Use that dice to evade down to one damage if possible.

You can absolutely lose stealth off of Countdown. You only don't lose it when you use his ability. Stealth device almost forces you to take a stress from the first TLT attack that would hit you in a round in an attempt to save the upgrade.

Lt. Blount would disagree with you.

Naked seems like the best idea for me. He's a striker with higher PS and in 1:1 or 1:2 matchups he's more durable.

Stealth device forces an unusual choice in the scenario when a single hit would get through.

To preserve stealth device, you take a stress, and still take damage. If you have hull upgrade or LWF, you simply don't use his ability.

The other drawback to SD is that you may be tempted to use tokens to preserve SD, which hurts his offensive output. I prefer hull, and knowing that it will take 5 attacks to take him down (with help from Yorr).

My action is almost always focus, which I save for offense. Occasionally a barrel roll to get a shot or for blocking.

Neither Bobba, MKII Engine Upgrade (1) with Adaptive Alerons (0) is the best combo, in my opinion...and cheap.

Oh, and Bobba, I don't mean to pile on, but bro....Backdraft, VI, title and a toy of your choice is better than Quickie....again, my silly opinion.

You most certainly can lose SD on countdown. Any second ship or anybody firing at you when you're stressed takes the SD away.

I've heard that some ships can give you stress. I recommend LWF.

personally i've used mk2 engines on countdown to give him more green options to keep clearing the stress

Lightweight frame for the win ! Low points, work more than people think and do good results !

Hull upgrade, get more hits off of him.

Hull upgrade has always served me well. He's gonna die, he's kinda like bigs in that regard, someone is going to try and focus him down (trust me) however hull upgrade allows you to survive two TLT volleys. Also stealth device and LWF only give you agility die that might need your green token for modification, but like I said, he is gonna die. Better to use a focus token offensively and maximize his damage output before he dies. But the biggest reason for hull upgrade over stealth is because of Gunner. Gunner destroys Countdown and you need that extra health to even stand a chance!

Neither.

You take Sabacc, because Countdown is hard countered by TLT's, turrets in general, and stress control. Sabacc at least has a chance to do some damage before he evaporates - at PS5, I wouldn't expect Countdown to do the same.
