I've been thinking about what sort of upgrade might be nice to see in the C-ROC. Ideally there will be something that helps Scyks specifically but can help other ships that are a little below the curve.
A lot of the ships that are behind where they need to be have an issue with action efficiency and low attack dice. There are also a ton of ships that have Missile Slots that go unused.
A cheap (1 to 2 points) double sided Missile upgrade might do the trick:
Side A (Fire):
Range 2-3
Damage 3
Attack (Focus): Attack 1 ship then flip this card.
Side B (Reload):
Action: Flip this card.
This bumps up the damage output of a two attack dice ship at the cost of an action but doesn't that kill the action efficiency of those ships and why would a 3 attack die ship bother with this?
There are a number of upgrades that have recently been released that allow action efficiency in one round by allowing the benefit of an action spent in another round to be carried forward.
- Long Range Scanners
- Rey (crew)
- Comms Relay
Because its a missile, it can get dice mods from Guidance Chips. This allows it to work as a kind of deferred action efficiency. A two dice ship is getting an attack at range two or three can can be modified with their focus token and with Guidance chips a ship with 3 attack is removing the range bonus and getting to turn one of its results into a crit.
The need to have a focus token keeps ships without the ability to take an action and get a focus in the same round from using the attack every round. It also sets up a situation where higher PS enemies can create a dilemma on whether to spend the token on defense or hold it to make the attack. When confronted by several ships with this Missile it might make sense to spread fire hoping to leave as many ships with two dice primary attacks made at range 3. The reliance on Guidance Chips for efficiency forces ships like the A-Wing and the TIE Advanced Protoype to make a choice between increasing their damage output or keeping Autothrusters for additional durability.
What do you think? Would an upgrade like this find a niche? Would it give you a reason to put a Khiraxz or a TIE Advanced on the table? Is there something that I'm missing that would make it overpowered?
