What's the purchase plan?

By flightmaster101, in Runewars Miniatures Game

But imagine if you're interested in RWTMG, but have held out for the release of the Elves/Ulthuk - then they announce 'large army boxes' for them - Great! But you still have to buy a core set containing TWO factions you don't want...

or just buy dice and cardboard off ebay.

The army boxes would contain the rules and templates which cost hardly anything to produce now that the design is done and the tooling has been created

for the records if you did not pre-ordered your copy of core box and just waiting to buy one as soon as they got released, then you can get one right now off ebay, i have been watching the prices, copies been sold as low as $65 which is $20 less that what retailers are selling it for, and guess what there are some with free shipping. The Cherry on top of the cake you will have it right now and not 15 days later

just saying ;)

I don't think we'll see an army box for Latari Elves and Uthuk Y'llan, but it would definitely be better for my wallet. If they just release the expansions that correspond to the 4 starting units, it will cost about $135 to get a "core" army.

Hero - $25
2x Infantry - $50
Special (archer/cavalry/etc.) - $25
Siege - $35

When you consider that this gives you the same amount of units for a single faction as the $100 core does for a single faction, it's quite hard to swallow. The only consolation is that you'll have more upgrades for your army than you would with a core starter.

But I feel that a core starter is a bad move for FFG as a business. They would be making a product that sells for less than individual expansions and it would be difficult to gauge how many you need to produce. How many people are going to buy a starter? Are people going to buy multiples of it? If they do, does that cut into the amount of expansions you can move? And how much would this hypothetical starter cost? $50? $100? At $100, you are paying for a core set's worth of units and only getting half of the units. At $50, there is an $85 discrepancy between the price of the core and the price of individual pieces. Then again, if we look at the core we see the same thing, with people buying multiple copies to fill out their armies for cheaper. I just don't know what to expect. I'm sure we'll find out at GenCon.

And honestly you'll need more than that for a real army. The core box only gets you to maybe around 100 points.

No one's wallet will come out unscathed when they release the expanded armies. For sure these armies will have new dynamics that affect the meta game and the Daqan and Waiqar collectors will have to respond by buying different units or just as likely, buy the new Daqan and Waiqar units that are sure to be released alongside the expansion armies.

I'm just trying to be as gentle to my wallet as possible before then and will do a slow-roll on purchasing core/initial expansions until the lay of the land is more clear with expansion armies.

Me too. Which means Core + wait for Uthuk.

My earlier plan remains: I'd like to get 100 points of each army for small skirmishes that are shorter and easier to teach to friends and family. From there I'll see about diving into the Uthuk and building tournament lists.

An army starter will likely be $70-80 and come with terrain as well as the templates, tokens, and books.

I feel like FFG regularly shows they they are interested in offering up decently priced big box expansions and I don't see why this would be any different. I feel like the only way to not upset every single person interested in the ulthuk or latari would be by making some type of large box expansion for either $40-$50(for just 100pts) or $100ish(for roughly 200pts of stretched thin units) if they just launch a wave that is all small box expacs for the same price as what is out now they will be making those factions unplayable by most people because they we are looking at a $3-400 basic army... that would be a bit extreme and hard to justify, well sorry players that aren't interested in the core armies, if you want to play the game buy a $100 core then buy 4 $25 infantry 2 $25 specialists 1 $35 siege piece 1$25 command and 1 $25 hero, and you may be at 200pts... That wouldn't break me away from the game but it would kill a bit of my FFG fanboy attitude and kill my interest in getting a wave 2 army...

well I found one of those mythical $65 copies of runewars and jumped on it...now i'm going to have 2 full cores and half of the waiqar...oh the bad life choices...this may turn into a painted learn to play box for my FLGS

Shouldn't money from biotech be invested in augmentations? ;)

I will wait for Elves (with Leonx Riders :] ) to get something myself. For now I will play with my friends... maybe I will get a set of Rune Golems, they look quite interesting.

So this may kill me, but I'm planning on collecting all the factions. Anyone else with me on that?

I think many more people are with you on that than even realize it, themselves.

Sure, sure, it starts off innocently enough. Oh, I'll just trade half my box and collect one faction...

Before you know it there are moths in your wallet and tokens all over the house.

Wow! Good luck with that! Makes me slightly jealous. I'd love to have everything! It's just not going to happen unless I win the lottery. I'm for sure going to keep up with Waiqar and Daqan to start.

I'm interested to see how the other factions will be implemented into the game. I'm kind of hoping certain or all factions from their general alignment (good/evil) can be intermixed with each other somehow.

Also, I'm hoping there will be neutral units like in BattleLore that anyone can use. For those who don't know BattleLore had Dragons and Giants that could be included in any faction.

Taki I'm probably there with you...atleast to build armies of every faction

Dude that's hardcore.

I would but (and believe it or not money is not the issue), storage would be nightmare as well as getting everything painted on my schedule.

I'm going to buy enough to play 2v2 with the four year one factions. The new job with the bigger salary is going to be a God send but I doubt I'll tell my fiancé about all the purchases!
