What's the purchase plan?

By flightmaster101, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Just curious to see if there is anyone out there who is going to get everything, get only one faction, or get something in between.

i think if it's like X-Wing or Armada I might get everything for the upgrade cards and a cool collection to paint. If upgrades in the box are faction specific or duplicates of the equivalent expansion to the other factions I might just collect humans until elves come out, then go in on elves.

2 starter boxes, then 2-4 of all Human waves...

2 starters then probably 1 each for all expansions. Maybe extra expansions if I want to focus on a particular build.

Same here

Don't really know, i'll go on two core sets and focus at first on waiqars but when Elves release, I'll go with them. but if Orcs and Dwarves are scheduled too...my wallet will be buried six feet under... :D

I need to find someone to split a pair of starters with, then I plan on picking up at least one of each Daqan expansion. That is, of course, assuming I can find anyone in my area who's also interested in playing. I might be the only one.

Post your location here: community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/244382-location/ and maybe you will find someone.

I will buy the core and probably some undead expansions and then I will wait to see what FFG releases next because I'm also interested in the Uthuk and i have always been a dwarf fan.

I've got a buddy to potentially split core boxes with. I think we're each going to buy a box, play a few games, and then decide. I really want to paint both factions though, so I could see myself having a main force that I collect multiples for, and then a more trimmed down line. For the moment, I'm leaning towards Daqans as my main force, but ask me again tomorrow and I'm sure I will have changed my mind.

Splitting cores with a friend

On core, some plays with a friend who is also going to buy the core (splitting the cores just for play), then check if the game is good or not, check what happen with the upgrade cards in cross-faction expansion boxes, and finally if everything is ok, go with one expansion just for 1 faction. I never again will go all-in without checking good the product.

Two core sets for the dice, movement templates and value for units. Then one of each expansion, perhaps a second if I think it will work for a specific build.

As Uthuk Y'llan are my favourite I'd then buy a similar sized army once they get released. If there are no or few Waiqar and Daqan expansions released in the Uthuk wave I'd probably buy a basic Elve army to open up 2v2 games. Long term I wouldn't be buying all the Elve expansions as they don't interest me as a faction.

Finally if the Orcs ever got released I'd have to invest in an Orc army. The size of which would depend on how much I'd already invested into the game and how much I get to play the game. Oh, it would also depend on how many miniatures I still had left to paint from the other armies!

I'm starting with one core + dice. I plan to buy Ankaur and some Waiqar expansions to bulk up, and buy a second core when the price comes down next year.

For people thinking about upgrades: FFG has said that single faction collectors will get all possible upgrades within their faction expansions. So we should see Ankaur and Hawthorne come with faction specific upgrades but both have neutral upgrades.

TLDR: You don't need to buy another factions expansions to get all the upgrades for the army you want to play.

It occurs to me that I could convince my warhammer playing brother in law to get on the bandwagon. Then with any luck he'll buy his own set and who knows, maybe my two friends I'll be primarily playing with will start to buy their own set as well so I don't have to buy everything. :P

I'm really looking forward to getting what amounts to a starter army for each faction so I can pick up and play any faction in a casual game (and get to paint a little of each faction). I also want to be able to introduce the game to others and have them pick a faction they really like. I'd love to participate in tournaments, but I haven't even made it to X-Wing game night in months, do I'll have to see how it goes.

If I were to get any expansions, I'd get the infantry upgrade packs. They seem full of the flavor of each faction and I can't wait to see what the Latari and Uthuk ones look like!

After that, it's all-in on Uthuk Y'llan, but I'm still collecting X-Wing, so this is dependent on how active the Runewars scene is in my area and how much time I can spend away from home.

I'm getting 2 cores, splitting the second to have 3x core worth of Waiqar, then I'm going to buy one of each expansion, probably will only buy multiple expansions if I need doubles of a certain upgrade card and then probably only of the reanimates or archers. If i need more filler models to flesh out units in a higher point game then I will look more at splitting another core with someone or picking up the inevitable Ebay unit packs from parted out cores

My only issue with that is most of the Carrior Lancers will be in the same sculpt. Otherwise 3x cores would offer a lot of value.

mod them? maybe replace the lance with some daqaan spears or such...I dunno, but I would agree that maybe the carrion lancer may be worth getting multiple boosters, my primary plan for the lancers is to have 1 in each group of reanimates and a unit of 2...

2 Boxed sets, then one of each champion box, depending on how much I like the game play other expansions

To be perfectly honest, I see myself dropping out sooner rather than later - solely for budgetary reasons. Currently I'm aiming at getting the Core Set and all of Wave 1 once each as well as the Uthuk Y'llan and Latari Elves counterparts to all of these (which I presume to be the entirety of Wave 2). I'm guessing Wave 3 will introduce non-unique cavalry and ranged infantry units* for the factions that respectively lack them thitherto, another (third) hero each and maybe flyers. Well, depending on wave size, the latter may drop one later. Frankly feels like a good amount of variety to me. If I were buying this for gaming in stores instead of at home, I'd possibly choose only elves and stick with them for the long run, but since I'm not... Besides, I need to make use of all my Vallejo Game Color bottles. :P

*Come to think about it, we don't know of ranged cavalry units on Terrinoth, do we? Elves, orcs & demonic seem to me thematically suited for such (in this order).

I really don't know. Every time I see a faction preview I get super excited for that faction...until the next preview for the other faction.

So for now my plan is the core box, play around with both and see which one I like the more. If I like one more than the other, find someone to trade with. If I can't decide on one faction, then it's two core sets and then expansions and a weeping wallet and an angry wife.

I do think I'm leaning more solidly to Daqan now. The aesthetic is really cool and I particularly love the rune golems. The playstyle also seems to appeal to me, along with the fact that I know I'm getting the Elves, so they dovetail nicely with Daqan with Kari's special rule. As an aside, is anyone else a little miffed that the Waiqar "list building" rule can be used right away with the core set, but Kari's rule is worthless until we get some Elves?

Reanimate sword arm on a lancer, use the lance arm to make a standard bearer without needing the command expansion. Problem solved.

Maybe its a way to balance the smaller waiqar units, therefore the base set, without making the larger units op.

I'm going to get one core, and then one each of the announced expansions for whichever faction I decide on. I will also probably get the infantry command expansion for the other faction so there are a couple of upgrades available.
