I bloody love mine (even if Rogue squadron and friends worked them over royally last fight).
They've fairly reliably managed to maim (never kill, but pile on respectable damage) some cap ships, and the one time I've managed to one shot an X-Wing squadron was terribly amusing (for me anyway, my buddy was less amused
).
I find the funny thing with Defenders is that they slaughter squadrons so well. But the moment you lose 1-2 defenders it feels very costly!
When is the camera man gonna put his camera down and do the pewpews?

He's done it once, he's just very protective over his camera-ing
Dw ive got other videos in the pipeline that doesnt need me holding the camera!
Maybe I've missed something, but you're not allowed to cross the template on maneuvers (even with engine techs) like you did at 47:04 so far as I know.

Page 8, RRG "Overlapping"
• If a ship must execute a maneuver at a reduced speed due to overlapping another ship, it is allowed to overlap the maneuver tool in its final position.
So basically I executed a Speed 2 inside turn so that I would ram the Assault Frigate, then following the rules for overlapping placed the ship at the next lowest available speed (Speed 1), which didn't matter if it crossed the template per aforementioned rules.

I agree, Defenders are king. But, I must ask how a Defender one-shot an X-wing. Were Flight Controllers involved?

Ermm, I didn't see a ram happen. I saw you overlap the template on an Engine Tech move. Maybe it was just unspoken. Dunno. Just looks hinky to me.

Basically Damo and I are very frequent opponents and also both experienced players so a lot of this was unspoken because we knew what I was trying to achieve and the framework in which it was happening.
From 46:45 and beyond there is a lot of non-verbalised discussion.
I grab the manoeuvre tool and begin playing with it to see possible moves saying 'Alright I think I can [ram]'.
Damo sees this and knows I'm trying to ram the AF.
'[You could ram the ship] After the Engine Tech, definitely, [at the least]'
Still fiddling with the tool I see that I can probably ram at Speed 2 with an inside turn.
'Well I can just, no, no I can inside turn [and ram twice]'
Damo realises what I mean, and as he sees the tool.
'[Ah] you can probably get me now [as well then]'
I walk around to his side of the table and lay the tool down with it set for a Speed 2 inside turn.
I can see that it will ram and that the move itself is legal (the space where I would have landed at Speed 2 wouldn't have been overlapping the tool, it's the ram that forces me back to the Speed 1 spot as per the rules).
'Yup so I will inside turn [landing at Speed 2 which will ram you]'
Damo follows along as I'm saying this:
'
and just do [back to Speed 1]'
Me agreeing:
'So go like that [back to Speed 1]'
Now at this point the first manoeuvre for us is already done. Even though the tool is still there from the first move, rather than move it and reposition it we're just ignoring the part underneath the base and using the Speed 1 - Speed 2 segment as if it was Speed 0 - Speed 1 as we both know I want to engine tech.
Damo says:
'So you go there and do two damage with the engine tech' (one damage from the initial ram, and then one from the engine tech move I'm about to do).
I agree saying:
'Yup so I'll engine tech and I'll stay there [due to the fact that I've rammed again]'
There's nothing wrong with it rules wise or anything of that nature, it just reflects our comfortability when playing against each other and cutting down on steps when we both understand what's happening.
Hope that clears it up.
You guys post some of the BEST Armada battles there is on youtube

Let that nerd flag fly my geeky brethren!!
Also how about that he totally does have Grit. Huh.
Fortunately it didnt matter but still good to know.
Never noticed that grit thing lol...Interesting, a great squadron to have it on. That damage potential and speed makes it pretty darn useful. Can immediately think back on times it could have been useful for extra tricks.

I think I've forgotten grit pretty much every time I could have used it ![]()
